I wish him luck Pam! I hope the third time is the charm. My husband was denied twice for SSD and we finally had to get a SSD Lawyer and go in front of the Administrative Judge. My husband had to fully PROVE that he is unable to work with his BI. If they think your son has any ability to work they will deny him. My husband could not return to work after the accident so that was in his favor. But, was still denied twice and he had to go through vocational rehab and to a BI center near us for 3 days of testing to see if he was able to return to any work at all, FT or PT and his results came back that he is unable to so that helped us a lot on that 3rd try for SSD, which he finally was awarded. They also re-evaluate every so many years too. He was re-evaluated, I think last year, and was continued on SSD. I thought the same thing with TBI...it would be easy to get, but it wasn't and it was really frustrating because it is not a disability that is easily seen from the 'outside', so people look at them and see nothing wrong! It is just so frustrating! I hope he gets it and I will keep him in my prayers! Love, Run

I hope it goes well also... His hope is to get back to work doing something. He is bored at home doing some of my chores that I have for him. Also tho I will say he either does not finish or screws stuff up. You know he has better ways to do stuff these days. I would not hire him if I was a employee. He needs to be supervised and harped on to finish. Everything he does is half-assed. Altho he is enjoying refinishing old furniture. If he is not disturbed and taken off task the probability of him finishing is much better.Just weird !

Maybe instead of 'work' he can take his time to do volunteering. This is what Vocational Rehab and the BI center jointly recommended for my husband. They recommended he slowly increase his volunteering and when he is able to do 5 days a week volunteering AND handle home-life activities, then he can return to Vocational Rehab and be retested to see if he can work. My husband has been able to do some volunteering but he has not even been able to steadily maintain THAT! He can't even handle our home-life of 3 young kids and every day chores! I sort of gave up on hoping he'll return to work anytime soon. But, I really wish he would return to some of his volunteering more regularly. He just can't cognitively handle it still.

Wow...Hope he gets it soon! With documentation from doctors and all, it shouldnt be that difficult!!

Well thats what I thought Snap.... with all the documentation I sent in before. I mean just looking at his mri and see all the frontal lobe bleeds into the brain why would they deny him ?! Very confusing and frustrating.
I want to get him in to the State of CA rehabilitation depts program. I have a friend that is a OT and he says it is a good program. But first we have to get headaches and seizures in control.

Oh yea...Seizure control! Thats why we went on the roadtrip yesterday, to neurologist, for seizure control!! In fact they called back about 30 minutes ago wanting to cut Depakote back, by about half of the dosage he has been on....uh, does this mean we are going to get more seizures now??? The seizure thing will keep you on pins and needles.....Hate the damn things!!

oh my,we were so lucky the social worker at the rehabhospital filled ours in and got all the paperwork we needed ready even before Wade was dicharged and to everyones surprise he got it first time trough , and it is real hard up here too.

wade is told he can work 3 parttime shifts a week, with little stress, but it was recommended even by the doctorthat the insurance co had tet him that he get out side work as it seems it i best suited for him.

Well I guess the hearing went ok. But judge is holding off on any decisions until after son goes to UC Davis. Not sure why that would make any difference because he is what he is. But at least it was not a complete no.
I really still do not think that the judge and vocational person that were present even have a clue about tbi. I was not permitted inside the hearing so I am just going on sons observations. He felt that his lawyer really stressed on his headaches and that would make him unable to hold a secure job. The vocational therapist suggested he do work like laundry and cleaning jobs. The lawyer asked if those jobs work permit him to lay down for a while if his headaches get too bad. My son was like what the hell.......laundry and housekeeping jobs really. I guess he feels he is above that kind of job. Well he used to be anyways. That is really sad that his abilities have really dropped.
So we wait ......again !
