I'm forcing myself not to go to sleep and couch sit today. I decided to not mope, but be productive and to edit my father's war dairy after the translation from dutch, and it's giving me a perspective on my own life. He was sent to indonesia to fight a war in 1943 -1945
"Wednesday, September 8th
Today no duty and I was able to get some rest. At first you don’t know what to do with yourself. One thing to do is to write letters to home. The problem is how and what to start the pen going on paper. You really can’t write how good tropical life is as their thought patterns are different. Neither can you complain because it would be too hard for them at home to understand. Basically you don’t want to admit you are homesick and nobody is trying to spoil you here. Grow up. Face the facts. Your fate is either to die or stay alive for a salary of 50 rupias a month."
I'm only posting this because everyone's reality can be so drastically different than anothers at any given time, yet no less important or troubling. I don't think anyone goes through life who doesn't feel like they are alone or that their journey is hopeless. Yet we survive and things change.

I didn't mean to wait until the end of the day to check in, but I've been busy with PT and then a bunch of cooking. My Son is here during the week now so I have a reason to make an effort. My neck and shoulder are feeling it, though. I'm done for the day.

A wonderful thing to do Angela. You will learn so much more about your dad. I loved what you wrote and appreciate you sharing. Glad yöu were able to stay wake and fight your own battle.
Cherry cooking is a good sign for you. Baby steps so you can keep healing.
Saw Ortho today and she says I am out of the woods on needing surgery unless some thing involving a ruptured tendon in thumb occurs, which can , but rarely does. I gather it is like "drop thumb" and the odds are slim in my type of fracture. I will remain in a removable hard cast. I got a new one today. It is pink with black trim.
