Geesh, woman! You're going to make the rest of us look lazy! Seriously, it sounds like fun. I've made all kinds of Christmas treats over the years, but I've never done hard candy.

I started another horrible day and I'm glad it's nearing an end. I guess I have to cut this short and lie down...damnit. I'm so weary of the pain.

Dixie you really had a day of it sounds, I would have enjoyed that for an hour or so . Of course my neck would not have been too happy. I have made hard candy. My first time in my late twenties. I poured it into a glass baking dish. Oops. Should have read it through. Didn't give up and made another batch in a sturdier pan that would allow me to crack the candy. It was cinnamon, so pretty and delicious. Thinking about it now I could have put the baking dish in the oven and brought the candy back to liquid and poured it in a proper pan that would allow me to crack it up.

I think we should get some candy recipes on here. I usually do divinity and almond roca. Both must be done when the humidity is low.

Today was cleaning day. Yesterday we put a small tree up and I got one wreath done. I also cleaned the linen closet. This year I went with hand crocheted angels and stars. Also brass and crystal angels. I had to add our first brass ornament we purchased the first Christmas together as a married couple. I also added the red Hallmark heart that Kegan likes to take off and open up. It opens to a family at the dinner table. They dropped by on their way home this evening and the first thing Kegan did was shake the Polar Express snow globe and then over to the tree for the heart.

Hippy we lay out freezer paper and sprinkle a solid layer of powdered sugar on it and then pour the candy on this. Pours out in a thin layer because we can lay a big sheet of it out on the table. We get more pieces this way too:)

wow, i couldn't read this last night with the awful headache. not the best day.

dixie, what a day!! this all gave me flashbacks of how into the holidays i was hand-making or cooking many gifts and decorations - pepper jelly, which i dropped the pot of transferring it from the stove. i knew to jump, but it was such a mess! all kinds of cookies and candies, too. wow, miss that, but it just seems like soooo much now.
maybe this will inspire me to do something!

Made candy with my mom as a child. She had a big marble slab. We did not have many luxuries when I was growing up, but that marble slab certainly was one. We would make at least a dozen different hard candy flavors. Mom would also make several flavors of caramels, including vanilla and chocolate, some with nuts, some without. That marble slab was well used. My sister has it now.

The holidays were something else in our house. Baking and cooking. By the time January arrived, we were all exhausted. But, It was fun.
