Maybe we can put a positive twist on this by changing all the 'stops' to 'starts'. I was at an appt. with my shrink one day and he asked what I needed to change to make my life better.

Well...I started in with all the things I wanted less of! He listened to my woes and then suggested I rewrite the list and change everything to what I wanted more of.

I almost mentioned this yesterday when you made the list of 'Don'ts'. Just a thought...

So Cherry....instead of a negative turn it to a positive.

After posting these something hit me that I just didn't like them. I mean on one hand we can become too obsessed with the above to the point it works against us.

But should we really not care what people think of us, if we stopped, would we lose our morals?
If we stopped trying to be politically correct would we become careless in our answers?
If we stopped caring about how we looked.....well...that one answers itself.:)
If we stopped caring what everyone else wanted from us, thought about us ect. would be become dispationate?
ECT., ECT.

I guess what it boils down to : Everything is good in moderation, when it becomes excessive is when it can become harmful.

I like it because I tend to have too much care and concern about much of what was posted. So it is a reminder for me to not give so much care...especially about what I cannot control.

I agree totally..... Moderation..if you care too much..lighten up and if you don't care at all...shape up

I am going to weigh in: There are some stops and there are some starts in moderation.

I don't think we should worry about what we can't control.
I don't think what others have should really be our concern.
I don't think we have to be right all the time.
So these would be stops

Yes, hippy, I think you hit the nail on the head.

I agree with these to an extent. The thing about worrying over things that aren't in our control...sometimes worrying is a sign of caring, whether you can control the situation or not. I worry about my kids when I am gone or away from them.

As far as caring what other people think of us, a friend of mine made an excellent point the other day. She said that whenever someone talks bad about her, they are actually building up her karma FOR her and she doesn't have to do a thing. I liked that attitude.

I remember back in 2003, after my 2nd back surgery, when I realized that I had to give up my 22 yr career. I was DEVASTATED. My whole world came crashing down on me. My husand was a stay-at-home Dad while I worked to support my family and I was very PROUD of that. I became really depressed and guilty that I had let my family down. Once a confident woman, I had run out of confidence and low self esteem was setting in. Our stellar credit history was quickly going down the tubes on top of everything else. Soon after, I began seeing a Pain Management Therapist who made me realize that none of this was my fault......I COULD NOT CONTROL what had happened, and therefore should not feel guilty about it. He was right. It took awhile but I finally accepted it and as a result, it helped me to move forward.

So I guess what I am trying to say here is that the last one listed..... "Stop caring about things you can't control" hits a chord for me personally because of the above experience and I agree with it 100%, although, as bledpub pointed out, there definitely could be a few exceptions.

Sorry to hear you lost your career on top of it being the sole source of income for your family. I hope you and your family have been able to manage to be happy despite this. There are still happy times in life regardless of money.
