Took care of my 92 year old aunt until she died. She drank bourbon with a splash of water in the evenings and would get mad when I cut her off after 4 of them. She got into the habit of saying, "whatever." I told her she'd have to put a dollar in a jar every time she said that word. She asked what was going to happen to the money. I told her it was going into a campaign war chest to get Karl Rove elected the next president. Jar stayed pretty much empty after that. She HATED Karl Rove. She was a hoot, too.
My Aunt Mary Belle. Lived with me the last two years of her life. Read the paper from page 1 through the funnies every day, then would quiz everyone on how much they knew about current events. Then, of course there was the bourbon. I'd say, "Jeez, Aunt Mary Belle, there's nothing worse than a drunk old lady." She'd say, "Try an angry sober old lady." What a hoot!!
On her last legs, she picked up a strand of spaghetti and offered it to me, saying, "Do you want to try something that has absolutely no flavor?" I said, "Maybe if you put some of the marinara sauce on it, it would taste a little better." She said, "I doubt that" and slumped over dead. Now that's how I wanna go!!
I kind of just don't want to wake up, but then that freaks me out at night and I can't sleep wondering if I'll wake up.
My mom is at the stage, and I really need to get ready and accept that she's nearing her time. Of course she has been ready for the past few years. I'm NOT.
I took your perfectly fine comment and turned it into a black cloud over my head. :/
