One of my pups is named Millie. She's an odd looking girl - half Chow and half Boxer - she looks like no other dog I've ever seen.
When I keep the dogs in the house, I open the window so that my pups can "communicate with the dogs that walk by on the path behind my yard. There is a window sill just high enough for Millie to rest her head on and wait for a "visiting" dog to come by. Today Millie put a pig ear up on the window sill while she rested her head - I assume to entice more "visitors" to come on by. That was SO cute to see her waiting there with her pig ear......she kept rearranging the ear so that it was just right.....don't you just love them?

You're right. We run into the nicest people at "Pet Supplies." They usually have their dogs in tow.
My little guy, Jack, is such a character - his two little front paws literally dance when I come home.
They sure do love us - don't they?

my westie has a best friend who is a chow they really look funny together. BOTH these dogs are cowards they are mostly afraid of other dogs. unusual for a chow to be timid and with ppl too. Fyi this dog is from a loving home and is spoiled. home cooked chicken dinners walks etc.
Mystic - Millie hasn't attracted another dog yet - but boy was that cute to watch with the pig ear.
When I used to live in my last home, I had another dog, Heinz. He loved to run and he would run at any given chance. Millie was not used to such breaking of the rules and she would come tearing upstairs - and just like Lassie - she would bark at me and run towards the door to get me to go downstairs to call for Heinz. They are smart cookies - you know? I sure do miss Heinz.
One of my Boston Terriers.... Tyler... is all "boy". He digs in the dirt, LOVES it in the barn.... he goes on adventures, and brings me "presents" in the house thru the doggie door. To date he's brought 7 voles from IN the yard, a baby opossum, a blue jay, a box turtle, at least 2 dozen frogs(his favorite), a chipmunk, a flying squirrel ..... and a garter snake. I think it's cute because he lays them at my feet and looks at me like "Here mom!"... and I swear he's smiling! It's always a surprise when I'm away and come home... he just sits by his new found capture as proud as can be. The only thing that I wish was different is I wish he would actually kill these things before he brings them in the house. Most of the time he just plays with them. So far the only things that were dead was all the voles and the flying squirrel. It's not always so fun trying to catch these things like the chipmunk.... but it IS interesting !
Barb - I love your little Tyler. Millie used to dig up plants in my back yard - some pretty big ones and bring them upstairs - roots - and the dirt they were planted in. While that was no fun to clean up it always made me laugh. I guess she knew I loved my plants and she wanted me to be close to them or something like that. I had forgotten that until you mentioned Tyler bringing in his treasures from the outside.
I did have a cat that would bring in the birds he would catch and lay them at my feet - so very proud. He learned not to do that anymore......

Well they were totally useless - except for the fact that when I tried to use it - Millie was totally enamored with the weeds it actually did grab and spin around. That kept her entertained the entire time I was trying to work that useless thing......my garden was not better off but Millie was sure a happy camper.
Dogs quickly form a huge bond with their owners. If you are a responsible dog owner that offers plenty of walks, great nutrition, tasty treats and plenty of playtime, then your dogs love and respect for you will create one amazing loyal companion.
2. They are always happy to see you
That moment when after a long day at work, you get home, open the door and there is that smiley little face running towards you. Nothing better! Especially when you can see how happy they are to see you which you can't help but love.
3. Dogs give you a feeling of safety
I believe that whether you have a little Chihuahua or a big Great Dane, they offer you a sense of security and safety. Doesn't have to be the fact that your dog is able to defend you but more to the point of knowing that if something were to happen, you've got that furry companion by your side.
4. Dogs keep you healthy
Daily walks, games around the house, adventures, fetch, etc, they certainly keep us on our toes. A great way to keep you're dog fit and at the same time look after your health. Bonus!
5. Dogs have huge hearts
Doesn't matter that you got home really late one day, it doesn't matter if they missed a regular walk or you run out of their favourite food as whatever happens, they will always forgive you. Dogs are there when you're up and they are there when you're down.
6. Dogs keep you entertained
There is nothing better than when your dog is in a playful mood to mess around with them. Especially when your dog has a lot of character as it keeps you entertained with all the silly stuff they do.
7. Loyal, unconditional love
There is no looking past this one. Whether you have been away for a while or been too busy to play fetch, your dog will always come running with enthusiasm and never ending love. As humans the loyal, unconditional love means a lot and is highly valued. This is why our dogs are loved so much!
8. Dogs help you to become more social
You make friends and dog pals for your dog by regular walks and park visits. A great way to not only stay healthy but to become more social .
