Okay - I moved 550 miles away from my son last July. Since then, not only have I stopped thinking about him - for the most part - but I have discovered an area that I love. This move was such a good idea!!
As I have mentioned before, my health is coming back. My sky-high blood pressure is back to normal and my anxiety has subsided a great deal.
I have also talked about the snow that I have seen falling for the first time in my life. I have never seen anything like it - so quiet and so calming. The beauty of nature is all around me here.
While driving into town today, I noticed something else that is gorgeous here. The main highway cuts through a mountain range - and the huge rock formations that I saw were magnificent. Beauty is right there in front of us - and we need to do whatever is necessary to allow ourselves to again notice what it around us and if that takes totally letting go of of annoying parts of life (estranged kids) then so be it.
Life is way too short to miss the awesome beauty which brings us joy. I used to be so distracted by my relationship with my son - I had stopped noticing what was around me. I don't want to be at the end of my life - wondering how it all slipped away so quickly - and missing the beauty that is there.
You sound wonderful LJ. I am a native Floridian, I can remember when I saw snow for the first time ever...wherever the heck we were stationed at the time, Virginia I think...some take it for granted I suppose, but it was absoultely amazing to me at the time. Of course my body never adjusted to the much colder temps, but like you said we must take advantages of those oppurtunities when we have them!!
As for us now...a drive along our beautiful Gulf of Mexico in northern Florida is heaven, or simply sitting on the beach with a glass of wine or cup of coffee either way!! You can look out and see no end to the ocean...only a horizon where the sky meets the water...nature is indeed beautiful...enjoy!!!!
Linda... you sound so HAPPY! Makes me happy for you!
People laugh at me for loving the snow so much. They are the ones missing out. My favorite thing to do in the world is to take a walk on a full moon moonlit night when there is fresh snow on the ground. The crisp clean snow shines in the moonlight and the cushioned silence is like the most peaceful place in the world.
Snow is a natural sound absorber. You have to experience it to feel the peacefulness. Just heaven!
There are many things that used to bring us joy that we've lost... It's great to rediscover them again!
Hold onto this feeling. It will keep you strong.. and happy!
Early last Monday morning in London..it was so quiet.. I looked out and snow was all around.. The tree-tops were laden with it.. So beautuful, like a fairy-land..
We had to leave for the airport, to come back here to Florida, but it was a lovely site..so peaceful.
Very happy for you and am so glad that you have gotten to experience the beauty of snow in the mountains. You sound very much at peace in your life right now. I am very happy for you. Guard that and dont lose it for any reason.

p.s. If you have a chance to go snow shoeing in the mountains, you need to do it.
Aww thank you very much for sharing with me about the snow you guys.
BJ I didn't know that snow was a natural sound absorber - but that sure does explain the incredible silence - that brings so much peace - while watching snow flakes gently falling to the ground. The experience is like nothing I have ever felt before. Something else that I love about snow is that it seems to have a bluish sheen to it - it sort of glows especially at night - amazing. I'm going to go out there and walk at night in the snow - next time it snows. Thanks for that information.
This is so much better than hanging around a manipulative son and DIL - who are just waiting for their next chance to steal something else from me. We sense these things when they are happening - no wonder my blood pressure was sky high back then. It's only been 7 months that I have been here and it feels like a different world - a very joyful one.
If you get a chance to walk in the snow at night when there is a full moon... do it! The full moon is kinda like daylight and the light reflects off the snow to make it even brighter. No street lights or flashlight needed.
Rediscovering... or discovering for the first time... all the things that give us joy is something that we owe ourselves to do. Good feelings and fun is something we all deserve. Go for whatever makes you smile!
I have always wanted to do a winter hike at night, with snow on the ground and a full moon. Is it as pretty as I think it is. No flashlights needed right?
It's a dimension all it's own. It's dark... but you can see everything! It's this peaceful kind of quiet. The most tranquil and enchanting experience I know. If you get the chance... DO IT! Even if it's cold.... or even if it's still snowing..... You keep warm just walking..... but no wind.. cold wind is really cold!
