Watching netflix movie, Ring the Bell.. Just have to share. First few lines: Self absorbed wealthy 30 something's secretary tells him all his phone messages. And your mother called, she says. Are you going to call her back? Later, he says. She asks him how old is your mother?
Oh 70-75. So she says, Well then, by all means take your time.
Morning kbfree, and thanks for the chuckle with my coffee this morning! I can just here the sarcasm dripping from the secretaries voice on this one! Too bad the irony will not be appreciated by this latest generation!
Now all we need is a reality show on what the next generation is gonna do when estrangement comes knocking on THEIR door!!!!!
Someone pass the popcorn!!!
Yep, the sarcasm was dripping, It was the best line in the whole movie. It went down hill after that.
The thing I do not get it that they all carry their phones on their bodies, texting, calling constantly. Do not even need to wait til you get home to check your messages anymore. Do not even need to find paper, find a pen, write a response, put it in the envelope, find a stamp, walk to the mail box to do that any more. How hard could a , "thnx 4 th prsnt," be? That would make me happy.
They wish we'd go away so they wouldnt have to deal with us! Laugh is on them because we'd only inrich their shallow lives, and they cut their noses off to spite their face because one day they will be sorry!
And I think they take advantage of that. But, right now...I'm not chasing after mine anymore with all the giving and the loving. We are all adults now and it has to be a reciprocal thing.....as is appropriate with adults. And resisting the mother urge to always, always be there for them, so they feel loved. BAH!!! Does the thought that the mom may want to feel loved also ever occurred to them?
It's suppose to be a two way street, right! Never was meant to be just one way. Love has to be refilled or we go empty. It takes some a lot longer to hit bottom than others, but they will indeed run empty too.
So true Paws. I believe the only time it is a one way street is when they are very little, helpless and very self-centered as small helpless children are. Or if they are so disabled -you know like in a coma or vegetative state.
A human connection requires other people who want to connect. It can not be one-way any more than an apple can fall up.
I'll bet the writer for that script was a woman.... a mother with a thirty something offspring!
Someone pass the popcorn!!!
