I think we've all seen the ads for drugs on TV - the ones that will help with RA or Psoriasis - or other conditions. After announcing what these drugs will do for you - they give you a litany of the damages these drugs can cause you, often times including cancer or death. The trade-off always strikes me as a bit too severe.
Okay - and I think we've all seen the ads by lawyers on TV for "bad drugs" telling us that certain drugs have caused many problems and diseases - some of those being cancer and death.
We can get these drugs fairly easily by merely obtaining a prescription from a physician.
BUT - I bought some antihistamines, over the counter, at the drug store the other day and i had to sign a special form that is submitted to the government for people who buy antihistamines. Apparently an ingredient in antihistamines is used to make drugs that are dangerous for us.
Shouldn't the government be taking the drugs that are prescribed for us - a bit more seriously? The selective attitude, on the part of the government, is a little confusing and I suppose one has to follow the money to figure this one out. I just find this to be a bit curious.
lg. they use these form to track the quantities
thank goodness there are over the counter cheaper drugs. I found out how medicinal black licorice is had to cut back my consumption of the stuff.
explorer - talking about the price of meds - I pay $12 per pill for Wellbutrin - how insane is that? $360 a month and insurance does not cover it. I think big pharma needs to be regulated a bit because this price is ridiculous.
Move to NZ lol My DH takes 40 pills a day and only pays $5 for a whole weeks supply blister packed in doses. I dont know how you manage to pay so much for pills which.you need to live. I supppse you have no option.
Lots of people do either pay for their meds or eat and I think that this much capitalism is a crime. But when I get going on big pharma - I can't stop - so I won't get going.
explorer - I guess capitalism has it's place - however - regulated capitalism is really important, imo. The pharmaceutical companies are pricing their drugs out of reach of people who are on fixed incomes and during Bush's term the laws were tightened up on importing drugs from safe countries like Canada. We're like a captured audience with no options. To me that's where the crime is.....
Hi Linda----I can totally relate to what you are saying. What also blows my mind is that most if not all generic drugs are made in India which is a filthy country. I have all doubts how the FDA is going there to see how sanitary the conditions are there either. I knew a lady that worked for the gov in the capacity of getting approval for certain drugs and research. She told me she quit because she could not stand what the gov was approving people to take. One was cholesterol drugs----they cause muscle wasting disease which will kill a person eventually. Her bil died from it even though she begged him to stop them, it was wheel chair then death. Another thing is----how do they REALLY know these chol drugs help someone live longer? They do not know how long they would have lived had they not taken them.
I for sure do not agree that drugs are helping people all that much really. I am on a thyroid med that is well over 100 yrs old and it literally saved my life. I was in and out of ER and drs kept increasing the dose of the Synthroid and my body could not use it correctly. My heart was racing and I was dying. I quit my job to help myself. IMO the risk is not worth it in alot of cases. Most of all the drug thing is about $$$$ for the big pharmas----drs just hand out whatever they feel like it on any given day----I do not trust them at all.
Also, drs give out WAY too high of doses IMO----I do fine on Citalapram 10 mg---20 mg is Way too high. I have to take an antidepressant because Parkinson's causes depression and anxiety. All I can say is --- people need to take their health seriously and do their homework because I have found out the hard way that drs just don't care any more----the older docs do and did but the young bucks wet behind the ears just do what the med books tell them---everyone is just a number....so sad.
I have a discount program only. I only get $3 off on perscriptions. How sad to think the government thinks I am rich enough to pay for drugs that are out priced. If I go to Canada for my meds....I am considered unAmerican :(
Thank God, I only take blood pressure meds and can get them fairly cheap at WalMart.
My doctor keeps prescribing tests that my discount insurance company won't pay for or will only pay a few dollars for.....so I've taken passes on the ones that seem important.
Thank God I work at a funeral home....they will "shake and bake" me for free.
Only $3 dollars off...wow!! I think it is starting to make sense why so many people are sniffing and/or taking anything & everything these days!!
We did get a "RX relief" card out of the blue the other day. It is a pharmacy discount card that says you can save up to 75% off on 50,000 drugs at 50,000 pharmacies. Apparently you can apply for one at www.rxreliefcard.com or 1-800-776-0760. It would not benefit us since DH is retired military, I did check it out and it looks legit. I do not know however how this works in addition to insurance deductible or health care plans. If it helps anyone, I say go for it!!
BlueSaphire - are you taking Armour Thyroid? I take that because I can't use Synthroid either - or rather my body does not use it.
I need the thyroid that goes directly into my blood stream - rather than revving up my system in the hopes that it will also rev up my thyroid - which it doesn't. You probably have low free T-3's - and Armour is what works for that rather than Synthroid. But most doctors don't know that because they don't study much about thyroid in med school. They'd know it if they bothered to research it on the web but they don't bother.
And wow - the generics are made in other countries but we can't order a name band med from another country - it's against the law......I see. Big pharma really has a lock on drugs.....never mind what they do to us.
I was taking a generic for Wellbutrin - and I found a site that had many complaints about the fact that the generic cause extreme and rapid weight gian. So - it helps you quit smoking while you gain 30 to 50 lbs. - then you develop diabetes or heart trouble and die of that. Peachy..... I gained 30 lbs while on that drug - I am not a happy camper..... The problem is how do we get around this....

I have a tale along these lines that occurred this past Spring ('12)...
One day, i want to so some shopping. I was at a lcl. gardening store, and got this really nice set up where you can trim grass with nice long sharp blades on the bottom, but they are attached to a set up with a long handle, so you can trim standing up. Around here, there is a LOT of trimming to do, so this tool would save my knees...and so i bought it. No problem. Now, if i had 'dastardly intent', i could use this bladed tool to kill a person with one swipe.
Then, same trip, i stopped at the lcl. "walmart" and got a cpl. o' cans of "canned air" for my 'puter and keyboard and such. To purchase this AIR, i had to show them my DL, taken out of my wallet, had to reaffirm my B-Day to the cashier, who then had to call over a "manager" to "OK" my purchase.
Seems certain junkies like to "huff" canned air to get high, and that is why i had to go thru all of the rigamaroll.
I figure the next time i go to get a can o' whipped cream in a pinch, i better have my "papers", or i may not be able to purchase it!
Don't forget that D. Rumsfeld made a fortune on poisons before moving on back to Bush Admin., and many of our "representatives" make MILLIONS off these concoctions. They are also eugenicists, who, following their "Georgia Guidestones" (google it) want to see BILLIONS of we "useless eaters" dead. If they make a profit from it, all the better!
Our "system" isn't what we were taught it is.
I think you can always follow the money and find the basis for what is going on in any situation.
Did your grass trimmer work? I bought one of those once - it was more trouble than it was worth - maybe mine was just a cheapo - not sure.
That is too funny about the canned air. Have you used it yet? That stuff smells terrible and it does smell toxic - I guess some people like to sniff toxic stuff.
Yes Linda I am on Armour --- alot of drs won't prescribe it because it is "too old". I would be dead today without it though. The problem I have is multiple nodules in my thyroid and it does not work correctly and I really think when people get older the liver cannot convert the T4 to T3 and my thyroid won't. Most people would feel so much better on it. My Free T3 is not all that high, neither is the Free T4 and my TSH is .45 which is the best for me. The lower the TSH the better the meds are working. Actually I could write a book about the thyroid I have did so much research. It is alot like diabetes and it does depend alot on what time of the day they do testing---thyroid is affected by stress, food, other meds etc etc....so the tests are really not all that accurate. I actually go totally by how I feel now.
Linda----can you contact the company that makes Wellbutrin? Alot of the times the companies will give you a discount on it or a coupon. I was on that too before the Citalapram....really strange but Wellbutrin started to make me angry all the time and I could not figure out what was wrong with me. Doc took me off it and told me that was a side effect of it. I didn't know it helped a person quit smoking too. I am so afraid of drugs and really hate taking anything........next it will be drugs for Parkinson's, I am holding off on those.
