Yesterday Janice and have now spent a total of 15 hours cleaning out Mom's place, we called a junk removal company to pick up and they came in three hours.
This is a hard lesson to learn. Dad always said life goes on and be careful what you leave behind. My sister and I will not leave behind for our family to deal with like we had to. Pictures without names, clothes no longer worn, papework not needed for anything in the last ten years, dishware no longer in use, kitchen stuff no longer being used, just stuff. Mom had bins of paperwork from the beginning of their life in 1945 and not needed. If there are important papers I will scan and put on thumb drive. Jewelry not worn in years and many of it not one of use wanted. Why have four watches that don't work and not worn.
Today I have GI appointment and always looking forward to seeing my doc, Malory. She is so cool, smart and listens.
Sandra, Most of us have a parent where we feel the loss different. For me my Dad and I shared many of the same talents, he was a very quiet person and when he talked we listened. Mom would look like she was listening but it often turned out not so. There were many things about her that was admired in how she could stretch a meal and be creative. She loved to bake, sew and can fruit and veggies. Gardening was her love.
Carly, The pearls were there, too. I bought her a beautiful red knitted dress as she loved to wear read and purple in taste. It was amazing how she looked everyday of her life even when milking the cow, gathering eggs, canning and gardening. She was athletic as was Dad. It skipped me, except for archery and fishing.
Leo, thank you, as Dad said, life goes on and now I'm an orphan at 79.
Last night was the best sleep in forever and I think it's because Mom is at peace as we are.
PEACE

I swear, one more glitch in my life's matrix, I'm taking red pill and blue pilll and seeing what happens!

And I think th epearls were a splendid touch.
FWIW, the athletics didn't skip me and now in my 50s I feel every freaking practice sprint I ever did in my knees and lumbar. Which is okay. I mean, I can still MOVE. That's vital.
I'm so glad you have a good doc. I need one.
Back to trimming away evil invasives ONE plant at a time, then dab a touch of "paint" on the stem so the roots won't revive. (Tree of heaven comes next. I never knew I'd hate English ivy and TOH so much, but verily like Darwin and his barnacles...)

Gentle puma hugs.
Omg the paper work and even receipts from items they bought, dad kept everything! I was shredding so much paperwork!
Photos that mean nothing to us but everything to them.
Yes it does make you look around and see what you are going to leave to our children.
At the end of the day it is just stuff.
There is a kinda peace after they have gone isn't there.... I did feel a bit guilty after each parent went, but I told myself I was just being human. I was glad it was over for them (the suffering) and I was glad for me.
It is very stressful and one of the hardest things we go through when someone we love dies.
82F here and clear.
Joanne, your mom sounds like a wonderful person with all her talent.
Yes, life does need to go on. We have got to. Just tonight I was going through old paper work and old statements. Then I realised that I don't think that I needed to save receipts from Christmas 2012! That one must have been lost in the bottom of the file. After going through Mom's stuff and so much stuff I see that is right to have my kids have to go through it. I am clearing out. I have this thing in my mind about how I should keep it "just in case".
I do get what you say about a good night sleep. But I do remember waking up in the night and the early morning when it hits you. And even at our age being an orphan is really sad. Mike and I both are.
Leo, I hope that you can get a good Doc. What is keeping you from that?
It is good that you are still moving.
Sandra, I did see that somethings I saved were phone numbers that were recent. I have been thinking about calling but wondering if I should. Maybe they would like to know that mom has gone to a better place and that is why she did not return the call.
It is a peaceful place when there is no more pain. And then the memories start. How many times I wanted to pick up the phone and call I cannot count.
I do love your outlook on your loss.
Wishing everyone a great rest of the week.
xoxo
