Of course prejudice exists. What is sad, is that when it happens it is played over and over making it appear to be a widespread. It's almost as though some people want the rest of us to believe that such attitudes are pandemic. The truth is that prejudice and racism are a rarity. Most people aren't stupid, you see, they don't knee jerk judge someone. But if you prefer to focus on the attitude of that small percentage of people who are predudiced, that is your choice.

If you so concerned about this, perhaps you can a ribbon on your lapel to raise awareness.

Sure prejudice exists and sadly it isn't as rare as we would hope, what really bothers me is that it's a news item when it involves black people- yet comedians get paid to go on TV and make fun of over weight people, people will openly mock an over weight person on the street, even a mentally challenged person or a homeless person and none of those are news worthy events. I gets very tiring constantly hearing how mistreated black people are. I have black friends who are just as tired of hearing about it as I am.

Yeah. Talk about denial. How many times do I have to say it? I live and work in what you libs would call diversity. We get along fine. Probably because (unlike you libs who are looking for, and if you don't find it, you create it) we aren't constantly checking each other's skin color and adjusting our behavior based on skin color. We deal with each other as individuals. A concept that is obviously foreign to you and your friend from the south.

And God knows that being confronted with reality is ALWAYS a reason to be snide.

Do you think that being snide gives you an edge on the facts? Your personal experience does not represent the entire country - but I'll tell you what. I'll go find some statistics that back up what is indicated in this video - of course you'll find a way around those facts also.

Apparently, Compost, you don't quite fit in with the majority in this country and how they see prejudice in this country. A rarity??? You have GOT to be kidding. Prejudice is rampant in this country and it is holding African Americans back a great deal - and 74 % of the whites in this country believe that......

77% of people asked believed that prejudice and discrimination against African-Americans were important in explaining why African-Americans have worse jobs, income, and housing than
white people. When looking at the responses from specific racial groups, we found that this percentage increased to 91% for African- American respondents. Only 74% of white respondents believed prejudice and discrimination were important in explaining this disadvantage. This gap of 18 percentage points between African-American respondents and white respondents shows an important difference between these two groups understanding of the causes of racial inequality in our country. It is interesting to note that 84% of Hispanics felt prejudice and discrimination were important, putting the percentage for this racial group to fall approximately halfway between blacks and whites.

A lot of it is group effect too. In other words, one person walks by.......then other people are more likely to walk by too.

And one person confronts someone.......then more people are likely to confront them too.

And yes, prejudice exhists.

Where do I get my information? I'm living it. Curious, isn't it? Reports from your friend from the South are facts. Reports from Compost from the North are not facts. Hmmm. Could it be because your friend shares your code? You know, SAY that blacks and whites are equals, then treat blacks differently? I, and most sane whites don't tip toe around black people. We treat them as equals. Because we genuinely BELIEVE that blacks and whites ARE equals! You know? Walk the walk.

So, to review: yes. Prejudice exists. It is not, however, everywhere. And it would be even rarer, if people like you would stop treating black people differently than white people just because some white people treated some black people terribly in the past.

White guilt is for losers. Ask a black person, if you don't believe me! LOL

Prejudice isn't what holds people back, people hold themselves back, I would think the best example would be the fact that the current President of the USA is umm black! I'm sorry LJ but using prejudice is a cop out, "I can't get ahead in life because I am black, white people hold me back", it's a very lame excuse. Black people are not denied an education- but you have to choose to actually attend school and learn, work hard to get good grades and choose the direction that your life goes. It's the same here with listening to First Nations complaining that they white people are keeping them living in poverty. The problem is when you are handed a check every month and you aren't expected to make something of yourself- too many people choose to be nothing. It's not the fact that they are First Nations that keeps them from doing something with their lives- it's personal choice. When my son was born 10 weeks early the Dr. who ended up being his Dr.-is First Nations- she is the most amazing Dr. I have ever dealt with. There are many First Nations who make the choice to go to school and follow their dreams, sadly there are so many more who make the choice to do nothing but sit around and blame others for their situation. I just read this guy's post on FB about how it's not fair that they turned off his power and gas- he hasn't paid a bill in nearly two years! but his blaming white people for it and saying that the gas is on First Nations land- it's his right to have it for free. He gets money each month from the Government for him to live on- where is he spending that money? Well he drinks and he smokes and he doesn't work. Who is holding him back?
It comes down to work ethic, people actually having to work for what they want in life, and education- you can't get a better job if you don't bother to go to school.
