Yes, my assistant and I have noticed this trend over the last couple of years within our own company. We hire someone and within months, gets "hurt" on the job, next thing you know, they have a paycheck for life.

I know a guy who has back problems. Yes, he has genuine spinal issues; a couple of surguries and no doubt he has pain. He also has training and experience as a computer programer. He collects a disablity check, his two kids also recieve checks. By the way, his wife has a job that provides for them quite nicely.

He sits around all day reading blogs on the computer. He has lots of electronic toys that we've paid for. His kids have extra spending money that we provide them. But he cannot work because he is "disabled".

I hate people who work the system like that.

People addicted to drugs also are able to collect it.

My grandaughter's biofather collects dissability because he is...bipolar. I'm bipolar...where's my check??? ha And here, transients can receive food stamps and medi-cal. And yes, if you're a druggie or an alchy, you can get a check. Between my hub's high blood pressure/diabetes and my bipolarism, we should be quitting our jobs and filling out some papers, huh? Then maybe we could afford to pay our mortgage.......

I was on disability with bipolar for awhile (private coverage, however), some people DO need it.

You are upset that homeless people can get food?

I also know people who truly need it and are denied. I think if you are a drug addict/alcoholic, the only way you should get assistance is if you are in treatment.

Kbdid, my grandaughter's bio father is also addicted to meth. And as far as the homeless in my area getting food stamps..uh, yeh. They can hold their signs begging for money, just to turn around and hit the nearest liguor store or drug connect .. People with children CAN get assistance and a roof over their heads here. But those folks out there able to walk miles and hold those signs for hours on end? If they have THAT much energy and strength, they've got SKILLS to WORK. CMon...My hub and I both work, yet sometimes struggle. We have no insurance due to the outrageous cost with my hub having high blood pressure and diabetes? We cant get medi-cal, so we have to completely out-of-pocket the money necessary for him to keep from literally DYING! So, what kind of homeless are you referring to...exactly????????

Sure there are many with mental illnesses that do truly need SSDI and there are homeless who do need food, the problem is the abuse that results so that many are getting assistance that shouldn't.

Many are using this as their back-up pension plan. Full pension at any age if you are 100% disabled. No wonder SS is going bankrupt.
