We all have our favorite movies but they aren't necessarily "the best" movies because let's be honest, sometimes we just enjoy sloppy plots, over-the-top acting, overly graphic scenes, and/or gross-out humor and often we don't care if that makes those films less than cinematic masterpieces. But this isn't about our favorite movies, this is about the best movies, movies that define the very art of moviemaking - they can be world-renowned classics, award-winning masterpieces, or smaller art-house indie flicks that just perfectly capture the best of everything a film can be. Put it this way, if you met someone who has never seen a movie before in their lifetime - what film(s) would you insist they need to see that would most perfectly display the marvel of movies and why?

Two movies I consistently like are American Graffiti and The Sting.
I'd have to go with "The Wizard of Oz" - a technical marvel for its time that has earned its place as a classic - and "The Princess Bride" - maybe didn't hit the same heights in terms of cinematic artistry but it's withstood the test of time and how many other films can say they are a romantic, comedic, dramatic, action-adventure, fantasy, feel-good family film with broad range appeal?
