"Galaxy Quest" was just on over the weekend... that's an underrated film. I mean, not one that was ever going to win a bunch of awards or anything, but it's certainly one you can watch over and over again and enjoy. Rickman was pretty good in that (when was he bad though?!) but my favorite Alan Rickman performance comes from "Dogma", another underrated film if you ask me.

BBC America did a poll last year looking for the British equivalent to American actor Kevin Bacon, since Bacon's been in so many films with so many actors there's a game based around it ("Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" for anyone who has been under a rock - we actually tried playing it here but at the time there just wasn't enough enthusiasm to put the effort in). The poll choice for the British equivalent to Kevin Bacon was Alan Rickman because he's been in so many films, big box office pics and smaller indie ones alike, and he's worked with a lot of different actors, so you could probably play "Sox Degrees of Alan Rickman" just as easily as you can do it with Kevin Bacon (course, it doesn't sound as catchy, but what ev).

Bit of a shame he wasn't recognized nearly enough for his work but I think he's just one of those actors that was so good you didn't think of him as acting, if that makes any sense.

DAVID STRATHAIRN IS YET ANOTHER ONE, THOUGH NOT DECEASED.

Oh in terms of being someone who's in everything, I assume you mean? Yes true, Strathairn is in a lot of films - but he gets more of the "character actor" dubbing than Kevin Bacon does or Alan Rickman did; they're both bigger name stars who have some box office clout. Strathairn isn't someone really considered a big name star with big drawing power, hence the character actor status.

It is sad that Alan Rickman has died. He has also done a lot of theatre/ plays as many British actors do. I know of him mostly from the Harry Potter movies and the movie Love Actually and the Die Hard film.
