The 2012-2013 NBA season begins tonight with a couple of games on TNT (including Boston at Miami, which is on as I type this). Generally, the NBA has seen more games televised nationally on various networks over the last decade or so than it has over the rest of its history, but here's my discussion question for the basketballers in the group:
I can vaguely remember the CBS Sunday telecasts of the NBA in the 1980s, when Dick Stockton (sometimes Brent Mustberger) was the play-by-play man. In my opinion, the league was easier to watch in those days. The games seemed to keep moving a little faster, scoring less than 100 points meant a team had a really bad night on the floor, and it just felt a lot more fun than the style of play that seems to dominate today's game, where few teams seem willing to move the ball with any real regularity.
I'm probably biased because the CBS telecasts were when I was young and still impressionable, but I seem to prefer the '80s NBA more. What do you think? Do you like how today's game is presented? If you don't, which era would you like to go back to?

I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident. I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good. They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...

Sorry to say Journeyman that it doesn't appear to be a popular sport to dicuss as of yet here, but we do have some newcomers to the group, so perhaps my posting this will encourage those who do like basketball to debate it with you more than I could...
