Here's an episode of a series I enjoyed in reruns as part of the old USA Network Cartoon Express in the 1980s, Laff a Lympics.
Laff a Lympics was an on-and-off series of episodes in the mid-to-late 1970s featuring just about every Hanna-Barbera character that had appeared on their animated series up to that time. Several things about Laff a Lympics (about forty episodes were made if I have my info right) I find interesting:
* This series is actually a spoof of Wide World of Sports and the Superteams competition. In fact Snagglepuss is wearing the same outfit in general design that ABC sportscasters wore at the time. Now that I know this, I still find it amazing that all the first run episodes ran on ABC, considering how it makes fun of a program that was a Saturday staple and a special series that ran alongside the Superstars competition at that time.
Just the basic lowdown: Three teams compete in four events over two locations. Some of the events are wild takeoffs on events that could potentially have aired on Wide World at the time. Most events award 25 points to the winner, 15 to second, 10 to third. Some episodes featured a bonus event that handed out double score (50 points) to the winner.
Most of the episodes are on the Tube. Here's one in two parts:
Part 1

Part of the ending is cut off, but you do get to see who wins.

I’ve probably watched the sequel to __________________ more than I’ve watched the original.

Can't say I ever watched the Laff-A-Lympics back in the day though. I remember the show, like hearing about it, but never did watch the repeats of it.
The posted episode was a bad one for the Really Rottens with DQs in both first half events, it's the only episode I remember where the competition was a two-horse race at the halfway point, although there may, of course, have been others.
I'll post another episode or two from the series soon...I'll try to find one with Captain Caveman competing for AsTimeGoesBy.
