I think that a person should be allowed to decide how they want to die. Death with dignity is a choice that allows the terminal person who is suffering the ability to end their suffering. I believe in God and do not believe that suicide means eternal separation from Him at all. I took care of many children and adults who were terminally ill and there are things worse than dying. She went peacefully with her loved ones around her. I know that the type of brain tumor she had would have led to immense suffering, hundreds of seizures a day, inability to eat or drink, and no recognition of loved ones. She took control while she could and since her family was at peace with it I supported her decision. No one has the right to tell someone who is suffering immensely who has incurable diseases that they cannot utilize this in a state where it is legal. Before I took care of those who were dying I may have had a different response but my eyes were opened in a different way. Suffering in the end of some diseases is worse than death...take it from someone who has seen it up close and personal. I know some may argue with me but the way I see it I would support anyone if there was no hope of getting better. I know this is utilized more than people realize. Just food for thought.

i personally am 100% for it.
i've always felt i've been kinder to my animals that i've to have the put to sleep when their "quality of life" was over & they were starting to suffer.
i too feel god understands & i hope that i can pull it off myself when the time is right, but it's a hard thing to "time right" so i may need assistance.
a lesson i learned caring for my mom & 1 sister who were up & moving one day; the next day bedridden & unable to care for themselves...those last 2-3 weeks were hell for them & me.
yes, i could keep them out of pain, and i tried my best to give them their dignity, but no way do i want to go thru that or put my loved ones thru it.
timing is everything; unless assisted suicide is legalized.
people should be able to have the rights of animals not to suffer & prolong life when it is no longer a life worth living.

I think....I will think on it some more. I have pros and cons. I agree with mostly with what has been said here, but it's just not clear cut decided for me yet. I my self have thought of it. And somedays would do it at that moment. But then tomorrow comes and it is filled with so many blessings I would have missed that I'm glad I didn't go through with it. I search my bible and find the passage that says....I set before you life or death, choose life. Where there is life there is hope. Aaaa. see what I mean? (Shaking my head in confusion). Not clearly decided yet. BUT! I think every person has the right to choose for them selves. No one can make that dicision for you..I would hope not anyway cause then that would be murder. I'm still thinking.

It is quite a serious topic that takes very serious concentration. When you look through our eyes and how we all relate to each other , I don't see how a person who is or has not been seriously involved in this topic make a decision on it.

I am completely for it. I think the woman in Colorado was extremely brave, but she, like us, knew what she was facing in the very near future. I think we should have the right to choose for ourselves if we wish to die with dignity. I have been under the care of hospice services and they are not always so hospitable. I didn't feel like I had any dignity left with a bunch of strangers in my house. There are so many pros and cons to it that I can see and understand both arguments for it. It is not a decision one should take lightly. But I want to be able to make the decision. I know what my illnesses will lead to and am not looking forward to living in such a dire way. If it is considered "humane" to silence the suffering of our beloved pet, then why is it that we can't do it for ourselves?? Don't we deserve the same, humane treatment?? I believe we do.

I agree with assisted suicide 100%, The only thing is where do you get the nerve to do it?

Where do you find the nerve to do it? I think it's when you look ahead and it worse than whats behind you. If you (someone) are trying to build up the nerve to do it than your not a canadate for assited suicide. I have found that out in my own expericances. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired, and somedays wish it was all over. But...there's that but....But I find that with the power of God I made it one more day. And some days are actually good....ok, fair. lol I don't know what all God has instore for me and my life. This I do know that what ever it is will be fine with me. Do with me LORD as You will. Use me in some way to bring honor and glory to You. I decided to die to self to live for Christ....no matter what the day brings. He knows my ever need, pain, and loneliness. For what ever the reason...He still has me here. (All mispelled words are a sign of not using my spell check.) lol

Fonzy09, your 11/15 comment was so close to how I feel, but I do not think I could ever even consider it, to the point of building up nerve. No one should suffer, and this decision would be a personal one, but even if I was inclined to consider suicide, there is no way on this earth I could put that burden on my loved ones by asking them to assist. And they may very well be 100% willing, but after I am gone, in a year or so , or somewhere down the line, are they going to say why did they do that, why did they help kill their daughter/son/wife/mother, because in my opinion, that is what it would amount to. I feel everyone has that choice, but they do not have the right to burden their loved ones with the memory/

There are now assisted suicide doctors legal in certain states now. I dont believe a loved one should have to be involvrd in this.

I agree unicorn and they have the choice of being involved or not. I'm quite sure this subject would be well thought out with loved ones before it was to take place.

i am for it; but getting "the nerve" is a whole nother thing.
definatly something a loved one shouldn't choose.
i assumed "assisted" meant with the help of a dr or professionals.
having cared for family members, i am so grateful for the hospice people that helped me & guided me & made sure i was able to keep my loved ones comfortable those final days & weeks.

Well, with me its just nerve because I have no family.

As long as I am in my right mind I will not choose death. But I know we can get to the edge or bottom and feel like we can't go on any longer. But what if a cure is found or God heals you. As long as there is life there is hope. I still have a little hope. I am trying to think I am better and that God will heal me. The bible teach that...what so ever a man (person) thinks they are they become it. Lets all get really serious about thinking "well" and "healed".

I know Unicorn23. I am almost completely house bound. The last 3 or 4 times I have gone out I became confused and scared because I didn't know where I was and where to go. It's from lack of oxygen. I just about live alone. My husband is a truck driver. Most days I feel I am more trouble than I'm worth. I know I cause more work for my husband because of my illness. I know he loves me but I do think sometimes I should just release him of this burden. But I know he loves me very very much and it would hurt him to the point of death. I know that the harder your life is and the less you can do the more you think of ending it. That's one reason that I have reached out to DS to interact with people of like mind. We need each other. I am sorry that any of you have to be here but, I am so thankful that you are. thank you all so much for helping keep me "in my right mind". Well, as good as can be expected. lol
