Teens With Cancer Support Group
This community is dedicated specifically to teenagers with cancer. If you are a teen or know a teen who is going through a tough fight with cancer, share your story, thoughts, and experience and listen to those who have gone through the same fight. Know that you're not alone and there are many others who want to lend you their help and support.
I have papillary carsinoma, a thyroid cancer. I'm really lethargic all the time. I am also in constant pain.
My school is really small, 500 students or so.
Every one knows me as "the girl with cancer".
My friends were and are really insensitive.
I was really sick a lot a year before I was diagnosed and my friends always told me to "Suck it up, stop being such a hypochondriac." Then a lump developed on my neck, and my friends would make fun of me, saying I had an adams-apple.
After I got diagnosed I told them, hoping they would feel bad about how they treated me. The first few days they were mopey and sad, but then they started acting like my cancer just went away. Now they expect me to do things with them, like going places I can't go and doing things I can't stay awake for.
I can't be out in the sun for too long, I can't walk very far, I can't eat too much, I need a lot of sleep. They just don't get how sick I am.
And not only all that, but some of them use me to get attention. "Oooh, my friend is Maddie. That makes you obligated to be nice to me."
People I don't even know say things like that too.
Don't get me wrong, not all my friends are mean and evil, infact, most of them are just extremely stupid hicks that have never left the mountains. I have a few that are understanding and kind. I have one friend that is sick all the time, she doesn't even know what she has. But she helps me on days I can't do ANYTHING and most days when I can do little. I would be screwed without her.
Any way, I just had to get that off my chest.

as for the ppl who use you to get attention well screw them. if they things like that then sweetie you need to ask yourself if they are really your friends...

your friends are too young and immature to fully understand the disease and are trying to ignor the fact that you are sick, they want their friend back and want to live a wild high school life at the same time, please stay strong! :) cling close to the ones who are kind and reach out to the ones you seem to not understand and try to help them understand
i had people who also would use me to get attention..i finally told them off. i am sorry people are doing this its not fair and its not right.
