Sex can hurt girls for the first time. I wouldn't have sex with someone because they say they love you or people say it will make you cool. Save your virginity till at least your jr. year of highschool so that way you have more experience in life and make sure your using the right protection and possibly go onto birth control. The #1 rule I go bye is no unprotected sex!

So long as your body is ready for it (that's what foreplay is for) and/or you use lubricant, it shouldn't hurt too much. It's a little uncomfortable at first (lesser so if you're used to wearing tampons) but if you're doing it right then it shouldn't be overly painful. I agree with Kaitlyn on everything except the waiting period-- do it whenever you're ready. Whether that's today or ten years from now is up to you.

Most virgins do experience pain the first time. It isn't just a matter of being "ready" or of having adequate lubrication. Females have a hymen (boys call it a cherry) partially closing their vagina. When first penetration occurs, this hymen is broken. How much pain this involves depends on how "tough" the hymen is. Be sure you trust your partner and expect some discomfort.
