When I read this article, I could not believe the gall and temerity of the United States to accuse anyone of war crimes or genocide.
Yes, ISIS has no doubt killed many citizens, innocent women and children. And, yes, they are a terrorist group and should be denounced. And further, yes, they should be exterminated off the face of the earth.
Having said that, the United States has done much of the same thing----and it is somehow OK.
We have an admitted war criminal in the United States---GWB--- who is gallivanting around the country on talk shows to discuss his amateurish water color paintings and another war criminal---Dick Cheney----who is on the Sunday Morning political talk shows educating us about foreign policy. Both are self-admitted war criminals, but are free as a bird. Yet we want to call out others for war crimes.
Bush and his minions invaded a sovereign nation---Iraq----using lies as a pretext, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians, demolishing the infrastructure of that country, costing this country over a trillion dollars; and then he and his cabinet members had the gall to authorize water boarding, which according to Article 3 of the Geneva Convention, is a war crime.
There were no WMD---weapons of mass destruction----and this excursion into insanity by the Bush administration destabilized the region so that militant groups such as ISIS could thrive. Much of what we are seeing in the Mideast is the result of the invasion of Iraq. With Sadaam gone, a power vacuum was created, which allowed these factions to thrive.
Water boarding is classified as a war crime, yet Bush and Cheney have proudly said that yes, they authorized it----and would do it again.
Yet we refuse to prosecute our own war criminals.
And we wonder why we are so disliked by the rest of the world. The United States may not be #1 in all areas, but we have hypocrisy down pat.

Which explains the mysterious fevers and my extra fatigue. I'm so glad I pushed for answers.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

At the time, detainment camps were standard both here and abroad. The mass killings were something different. But there was little concrete proof, and what if that proof was faked?
So fast forward to Bush. Wondering about weapons of mass destruction, hearing about rumors, not knowing if it's fake or real....
That's how I look at it, and I give him a break.
The waterboarding is a separate issue. I understand the wish to beat the prisoners until the intelligence is revealed, but I also know that once you open that door, that it's very hard to know when to stop. In my opinion, the only moral option is to reject all torture.
But then I'm a pacifist atheist...so I'm not considered moral...
Just look at the court case involving the extremely improper disposal of nuclear waste at Area 51. Employees and their families sued the government over that because it was causing harm and death to them. However, the judges ruled that the army can do that without facing any consequences as long as they say it's a matter of national security.
no one ever wins a war and i do think that the isis could be stopped but i get the impression that the usa doesn't want to end it.
We have problems here at home and the money spent blowing things up in the Mideast could be used to improve the lives of everyday citizens in this country. Our infrastructure is suffering----dams, roads, buildings, etc,----education for our children is lacking and many people still do not have adequate health insurance. Wouldn't it be better if we spent the billions of dollars we are spending in the Mideast here at home??
The height of stupidity is the United States getting into a land war with an Asian or related country. We will lose every time. They have been fighting wars over there for 2,000 years and they are better at guerilla type wars than we could ever hope to be.
I had hoped we learned our lesson in Vietnam, but apparently not. Losing over 50,000 brave men and women did not convince us so we had to invade Iraq to prove our folly once again.
We are surely a stupid country at times.
No matter how long we are over in the Mideast-----whether it is another week or ten years----as soon as we leave, the fighting will erupt again. Many of the people over there are fighting because of religious differences and that will probably never change.
You can see what happens when countries integrate their religion with their government as many of the countries in the Mideast have-----perpetual war and fighting.
This is a good reason our country needs to maintain a separation of church and state. Keep religion out of our government.
