This is very odd to post but since the room has been so quiet I figure anything to liven it up right? Well since about Fri or Sat my tongue has been weird. Every time I eat the tip of my tongue goes numb!? Not the pins and needles kind of numb I get in my legs and hands but just numb. I can run it along my teeth and feel nothing. After I've eaten a little while it slowly goes away and kinda feels normal. Does anyone have any idea what could cause something so weird? Its not getting any worse thank goodness. Originally I was kinda scared and freaked out, what if my whole tongue went numb? But so far its just the same.... very strange. Anyone who has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks for being the kind of people I can tell this too and not feel foolish. My bf is the only one I've mentioned it to so far.

....that is a weird one....wonder if it could be a medication thing? How do you keep from biting your tongue?

Dang it...I was serious about how don't you bite it?
Lisa...do you think there's anything we COULD say here and feel foolish?
Maybe some kind of allergy thing?

HEHHE! That would not be good for me cuz I like to taste stuff!

I am with JC, I wonder if it would be a medication or allergy issue? Have you changed any meds/med makers/food etc lately?

I did some research and I think it might be related to my jaw. They say it is most common after dental surgery like wisdom tooth extraction or breaking the jaw to fix it. I have TMJ which has been bothering me alot lately. I've been thinking of going to the dentist and asking to have a new bite plate made. I used to wear one every night for about 3 years but it doesn't fit anymore. That tells me my jaw is out of line again. So maybe my jaw, when I'm chewing is pinching a nerve. That's the only solution I can come up with. JC I'm very careful when I eat, that's how. At least nothing else is numb so if I start to bite it I can tell something is between my teeth that shouldn't be. And its just the tip, not far back. Thanks

My first thought was of spicy food! Have you been eating things with cayenne or msg? I know that hot foods make my nose sweat...why not a tongue go numb?

We've been adding a bit of chili pepper flakes to a few things lately, I never thought about that. But I don't like hot spicy food so its very little. I'll have to take notice next time I eat.

Lisa I thought of meds at first until you said TMJ. I have TMJ too and it can cause this, it shouldn't last very long though. You should call your dentist and tell him/her what is going on. Mine only lasted for a few hrs at a time.
