Hi all,
I am at the office right now and just ran across a strange new phenomenon. I have many seating options here - a kneeler, nice office chair, exercise ball or I can work standing. Since I have been here I sat 20 minutes in the chair, then switched to the kneeler for 20 minutes. tWhen I got up from the kneeler my buttocks were quite numb and very cold as well as the back of my thighs. Its a different numbness than what I have in my right foot for the last year and a half. Its like my butt has fallen asleep and after a few minutes of walking around it just feels cold. I am feeling this all the way down my left leg and foot (not my bad side). It is not painful really though my back is getting quite sore after being here for over an hour now. I tried sitting on the ball but after only a few minutes my butt went numb again. Its very strange and bothering me even though its not pain.

Has anyone ever had this type of sensation from sitting. I know we talked about pain from sitting but this is different. Could it be that another nerve is pinching or more nerves. Even now as I am standing to work my left leg is cold and feels like freezing water running through it.... very odd and bothersome. I will be going home soon I think just wanted to put this out there while I can still describe the sensation well.

Had you worked from the kneeler before?
I am wondering if that cut off something that led to this?
I have had this happen before and you are right, it is one
strange unsettling sensation.

It went away but I do have a lot of unexplained numbness and tingles and
such on a low level most always and sometimes a high level. I also have
the cold feeling rushing through. I get this in my hands and feet most all
the time.

Let us know when this subsides.

Thanks Paulina, the kneeler is new for me. I just got it Wednesday and this is only the second time I used it. I didn't notice this sensation on Wednesday but I was in so much pain I probably wouldn't have noticed. It is still bothering me even on the ball so I'm standing alot which will only last so long. I figure another 10 minutes or so and I'm going home. I am just waiting for a phone call. thanks for responding

Not sure about the kneeler position but it does sound like something is going on. That you are getting it on opposite side is strange also. However I have been told I have more strength in my right side which is my bad side (the painful side). So I don't know it the other side wears out from any compromise while healing of other side. Does that make sense? When I read I am not sure it does to me.

First if this feeling continues and doesn't go away in a few days time for doctor. If it gets worse time for ER.
Don't know when your next Physio is but I would check with PT that you trust and have been working with in meantime if you feel a need for answers now.

Who knows someone here may have answer.

yes! if i sit in a car too long my kid can literally kick my butt cheek and i dont' feel it LOL it had something to do with the mobility of my feel that don't work and the nodual in my lumbar spine. My pain doc exspained in to me but i can't quite get it out right now. LOL

If you have low back problems i can see this happening. Also any foot problems.

its weird how our bodys parts are connected to eachother! lol

I get this too. I can remember this question was put up around a year ago in the big room and alot of people have this problem. It can be caused for alot of reasons. Inactivity, pinched nerves,back problems, etc....
Bring this up with your dr.

Try to work some gentle stretches into your day.

Yes, I have had this many a time Lisa. It is my understanding that this is from nerve entrapment in the spinal cord and neural foramina.

While you were sitting...you probably had a nerve pinched just right (or wrong as the case may be)

Thanks everyone for your support and input. I left work at 2 pm and went straight to the physio clinic. My PT was not there nor were most of the staff. they were all away at a conference so there were only two pts and the substitute receptionist. I asked if they could squeeze me in for some heat and they were able to do that. It was so busy I couldn't ask for anything more, I already felt like an inconvenience. But I am feeling better now so I'll wait and ask my PT on tuesday when I see him next. For now I'm doing ok and I'll have to try the office again monday and see what happens.

Just an idea but nerve pain meds can sometimes help with this. like gabapentine, lyrica, topamax. Antizesure meds too.

I don't know if you've had any sucess with these for your fibro but i do like how if you have fibro, the meds they use to treat it help numbness!!

Thanks Ray, I'm taking Lyrica already (300 mg per day) but I've been thinking for a while that I need an increase in dose. I am waiting to get back into the pain clinic for this reason. Should be within the next few weeks. Today was bad and my left leg is still bothering me alot. I don't like this!
