I may be late to the party on this, but this is something that I just learned from my Doc. In Washington State (and MAYBE other states throughout the US- I dont know) there will be a new LAW stating that ONLY PM Dr.s will be allowed to RX Narcotics over a certain dosage amount... (Initially I thought it was going to be ANY Narcotics but it might be just over a certain dosage.) I thought I had heard something about it before- BUT- I didnt know it had passed and -- I didnt know it was happening so soon! I am going to guess that most people are going to fit into the people that will need to switch to a "pain management Dr. " oh joy. ;(
The most important reason I am posting this is because ALL people that are taking pain medications will be scrambling around for a doc ( as it is- it takes a MONTH to find a Pm Dr. on average) just like everyone else and I cant think of anything more stressful. She says May/June (around there) this will begin. I said "what?!!" Thats only a few months away people! Get a plan in place if you havent done so! I dont want anyone to be last to know! But like I said ... * I * may be the last to know this info--LOL
I am going to look into this more but I am tired and its late. Has anyone heard about this for any other states? I am feeling kinda pissed about this because of how DIFFICULT this will be for people. Would if they have finally found someone to help them with pain and now they have to switch to another doc! P'od that even less Dr.s will be covered under insurance. If you have to pay in cash - the one I went to years ago was 200 bucks a visit and every other MONTH I had to go!
I guess pain mgt will be the specialty for Dr.s to go into - they will be RAKING in the DOUGH!!

If a Doctor opens a pain management practice he needs to be trained of pain management or like they call it, Interventional Medicine. Most of these Doctor's are Anesthesiologist's that decided to specialize in pain management, my Doctor is an Anesthesiologist. If a Doctor that is not an Interventionalist wants to open a pain clinic, he can NOT dispense medications at the clinic (this used to happened here), they HAVE TO take insurance, (those fake clinics were cash basis ONLY-how convenient!), they most ALL have their patient's sign a medication agreement, they must ALL do UA's monthly, and count the patient's medications monthly. The DOH (department of health), now has officers that do pain clinic's check to make sure that those rules are followed, so that way the DEA is free to do whatever else it is that they do.
NO ONE that does not have a Florida drivers license can come in and get seen by one of these Doctor's, and not only do you need the Fl. DL's, you need to show a bill, or a lease showing that you live in Florida. Basically, they have closed the borders to all of those people from other State's that used to come here to get narcotics to sell them in their communities.
I am very happy that this law was implemented! Florida had a really, really bad rap all over the nation as the drug State, and Broward County, were I live, was the Narcotic Capitol of Florida! But, NO MORE!!!!! yeay!
Good news is... that its NOT going to be straight across the board- like what I was told by my doc originally. It will be according to a persons dosage. If over a certain amount... that is when a PM doc comes in- to evaluate. I still believe that whatever the case is.... THEY NEED TO GIVE ENOUGH NOTICE TO CP PATIENTS! I still dont trust that will happen- I dont think they care about how this will affect people. They dont NEED to ... JMHO.....
