Sometimes it's family members who cause the most stress. My clients have all been so understanding about my not being able to work. I haven't notified all of them, yet, but I expect the same concern and well wishes from the rest. They have watched me work in pain for a long time and want the best for me.
Then there's my Aunt...she's an 82 year old spoiled brat. She's never had to want for anything in her life and is terribly image conscious. I have been turning myself inside out, twice a week, shampooing and fussing over her very thin hair to get it styled 'just so'...trying to please her for years! She has to be the most labor intensive client I've ever had. And get this!!!...she drives 2 hours away when it's time for her color/cut to the city so the 'real hairdressers' can do it!!! It makes my Mom so mad that she refuses to go with her and my Aunt needs to be entertained all the time.
She was scheduled for her do with me tomorrow morning and I have decided to follow doctor's orders. My body is not giving me a choice. She just called me and said everything possible to make me feel bad and responsable.
My increased meds were just starting to take the edge off when this happened. Now, my pain is back with a vengeance.

Do not feel guilty for saying no. I know you feel responsible but remember Doctor's orders.
I was a hair stylist for 9 years and I now do only my mama, husband and me. Hair styling is one of the
most intricate ways to use one's upper body and there is no way I could wrap a perm, or do all the tedious
work. Sorry I got off on me...just swapping stories.
God bless your aunt, I know she is getting up in years and you want to do for her.
I remember doing people's hair that I thought were "labor intensive" LOL~ good term
and if I had been working by the hour I wouldn't have made but about 5 dollars an hour.
We really get wrapped up in our clients. I always felt like it was me and no one else. But when I quit they
survived.

Anyhoo i completly get your frustration cherry. it seems like the very people (not including DS people) that should understand don't. Stress makes my pain flare too. Family has a way about them sometimes.

I can't but think you should feel flattered that your aunt doesn't want anyone, but you. Now I'm not saying that she gets her way, it just must be nice that someone likes your work that much.
She will get over getting her hair done somewhere else. Tell her that Auntie I'm sorry I can't do your hair any more, but look at what I'm losing my whole business! I need hugs! Then just start hugging her see how see reacts to that!

Family and friends can be so hurtful sometimes and only think of them selves,I've had a few of both,That I don't even talk to when there around.
Gentle Hugs.Remember she's the one that says her REAL hairstylist.She opened the door for well then next time you need your hair done,go to the real hairstylist. I'm sorry. Your Aunt made me mad. Just when your finally getting some relief.
