Welcome all {:-)
My name is Sheri, and I am a 50 something year old woman from the great northeast. Well, ok, not so great. Too much snow, and freezing cold...but hey, spring is just around the corner, right? *snickers*
I have three kids, the oldest being 21, away at college, the youngest is 14, ready to begin high school next year, and my middle child is a sweet, sensitive boy, who I love dearly, but he is giving me grey hair, and slowly killing me, I think. He is defiant, and a compulsive liar. He is lazy and unmotivated, which is sad, given that he is so smart, and has such potential. I have tried hard to help him. He has been diagnosed with depression (big surprise, right??) but refuses therapy and refuses all meds. Since he is over 18, my hands are tied. *sigh*
Anyway, sorry for getting off track. My pain stems from a couple of different issues. I have had both knees replaced, and each has been infected a few times. Two years ago I spent four months in the hospital, and nearly lost my life, when the infection in the knee prosthesis went into my bloodstream. I have knee/leg pain every minute of every day. I also have a bladder disease called interstitial cystitis, which is very painful as well, and I have to be so careful of what I eat, or it flares up in a huge way. I've never been diagnosed with fibromyaligia, but my chiropractor say he;'d bet his life that I have it. I tend to agree. I also have some sort of yet to be diagnosed auto immune disorder, which leads to infection of really benign things...like fake fingernails. Can send me into raging infection. Any little thing that is foreign to my body reacts badly and sets up as a terrible infection.
That's my story. I so appreciate this group, and you guys are just awesome! I am amazed at the problems you deal with on a daily basis, yet you have such awesome sense of humors, and know how to make a bad day a bit brighter!
So, thanks for allowing me to be here, and I so look forward to getting to know those of you that I don't know yet!
A year ago, I had a 2 level cervical fusion and my neck still hurts. I have this bothersome muscle pain going on that makes it hard to function like a "normal." I probably have fibro, as my symptoms fit the bill. I've been dragging my feet in getting that diagnosis because I don't see how it will help me. I don't tolerate meds well. However, I'd appreciate it if you'd chime in and give me your opinion as to whether there is a benefit to a diagnosis.
Like Cinomonhear, I'm from the northeast and I can vouch for her opinion in saying that the weather is brutal here. Frigid temps and pain don't mix. Thanks for listening.
Hugs,
Theresa
So between very strong RA meds and lots of hard exercise I try and keep the pain under control. I have a very high pain tolerance, which is not good, because sometimes you need to feel your body hurt to get help. As in pain being the warning sign of the body. I had my knee worked on a while back, and the surprising thing was to realize it did not hurt, but the rest of my body did. So some kind of toxic ability to dissociate from pain? Thanks for the welcome to the group.
thank you all for sharing about yourselfs
