That is unbelieveable. seriously some people shouldn't be allowed to breath. thanks for putting that out there so other parents wouldn't have to go through that. i am thankfull that I didn't have to go through it. I don't know what goes through those people's heads when they do it. publication for that type of information shouldn't be allowed period but if they have to publish it for some stupid reason they should wait a year after the baby passes that way it protects the parents and any other parent. here's hoping that it doesn't happen again to anyone.

i do have a tax ques though. i'm kind of dreading doing my taxes this yr. do we still get to claim them if they were born & passed away in the same yr?

yes, you still get to claim them, as long as they lived one day in that year you can claim them. It was hard filing my taxes the year after Ari died, but the next year I filed my tax lady asked me why I wasnt claiming Ari and I had to tearfully explain to her that she died.

I am just thankful that I do my taxes on my own so I won't ever have to deal with the questions the following year. And if I break down and cry while putting his name into the forms I will be at home with my spouse. I hope all of the new people including myself do not have to go through this when we file out taxes this year and I really feel for those of you who have already had to deal with such heart break and pain from someone so cruel.

Oh, no! I just checked and my little Grandson's information is on here. How do I get that off there?????? This is unbelievable! No one should be able to access this information.

I don't know if it will matter, but I sent them a nasty gram about this. No social security numbers for anyone should be on a website and made public! This really makes me angry!!! If I don't get a response, I will take it further.

the only thing I can say is perhaps start writing your local media about it, but then again do you want that kind of attention? It can go either way, I mean that you can embarass the hell out of the site and get it yanked or it can backfire and every parasite in the world can go on it and steal indentities...it would be a crap shoot....there are always writing politicians but truly not many of them will even care.

I just filed an online complaint with the FTC. Tomorrow I will call the Ombudsman office. If I get no where with that I will keep going and going and going! This is so wrong and I am just plain mad!!! Gonna try to get my blood pressure down so I can go to bed. Will let you know if I have any luck. I called ancestry.com a month or so ago and talked to someone about this. It is completely legal and from what he said they get updates sent directly to them and a few other sites with the death dates and SSN of everyone who passes. He said no matter how much you complain to the company it won't change because they aren't technically doing anything wrong. He did make it clear that personally he has issue with it and like some of us have said before thinks that it should not be posted until the person has been dead for at least a year to prevent the tax issue from happening. His recommendation is to talk to your congressman. If enough people complain about this we may be able to get something changed so it can't be posted or at least has a delay on it. He did sound very sweet and was obviously upset by this fact. I would recommend going to straight to your local/state government instead of wasting time on a company that isn't doing anything illegal though (from what I was told) I hope this helps

Well, I am still livid about this so last night after reading it and finding Lucas' social security # I sent an e-mail to Rootsweb and they told me that they get the info from the US Dept of Social Security. It was too late at night to call them so I sent an online complaint to the FTC. I figured that would be ignored so I called them today to complain over the phone. They suggested that we send death certificate copies to the credit bureaus and to notify the IRS. I also called Social Security and they assured me that they would never give a social security number to anyone! I sent another e-mail to Rootsweb and they told me I was misinformed. They get the info from NTIS.gov which I checked and it is a legit government agency. Tried to call them when I got home from work today but it was too late, they were closed. So, I sent them an e-mail expressing my disgust with them and copied the "good" folks at Rootsweb. The person who I e-mailed at rootsweb was named Daniel. I demanded that they remove Luke's information. Bet they don't do it though. I told them that I will continue to fight them to remove this information and will stop at nothing to do it. I will be contacting others tomorrow and will keep going until something gets done. This is just wrong! I have had it with people exploiting Lucas. I had to witness the other grandmother texting in the hospital while she had few precious moments to spend holding him after he passed. Texting while holding him! She then took pictures of him at the funeral which nearly put me over the edge of insanity. She was never there to help my daughter with the baby when she needed it. She had better pray that my daughter NEVER sees those pictures. Sorry for the rant, but even though he is not here anymore I will do whatever I have to in order to protect him.
