Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Support Group
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is any sudden and unexplained death of an apparently healthy infant aged one month to one year. SIDS is responsible for roughly 50 deaths per 100,000 births in the US.
Marissa was born 5 days after Nick's first angel day. Before we began trying, I had to get my head in more of a decent place. I had to ask myself do I just want another baby, or am I trying to get my Nick back? If it was the second choice, I knew I was not ready. To be honest for a while it was the second choice. Of course it was, because we are human and we miss them so much. Once the reality hit that Nick was gone and I could have 10 babies that wouldn't be him because he wasn't coming back...that really hurt but it was an eye opener too. Once that reality hit me, I hit rock bottom and slowly crawled out of that hole determinded that I wanted another baby, took some persuasing the hubby that yes, we could do this. It wasn't to replace Nick, it was to bring joy back into our lives, we needed happy back. We needed that little girl more than we knew at the time. Having her does not erase the pain of losing Nick, sometimes it makes missing him that much worse, but it was a new beginning. Along with all of this was the pregnancy that seemed like every thing that could have gone wrong did. I had placenta previa, a good friend another angel mommy micarried right at the beginning of her second trimester, was having blood pressure issues hubby's job security went out the window, we were faced with him being unemployed weeks before Marissa was due and the extreme fear that something was going to go wrong quickly without warning and she'd be gone too.
Marissa is not Nick, not a replacement. Marissa is like our rainbow after a bad storm.
A SIDS mom who was many years into grief asked me one day that if I had a do-over with Nick, but this time knowing ahead of time we would only have him 50 days, would I still have done it.....
The first time she asked that, my thoughts were HELL NO, this hurts too much. As time went on, it became HELL YEAH! For 50 days I had the perfect life, 3 perfect boys here on earth. Since then, my idea of perfection has changed, perfect is what you percieve it to be...there is no such thing as PERFECT.
Some mommies here could not wait to have another baby, while others have waited a year or more. I don't think there is a right or wrong on this. IMO if you wait 5 weeks, 5 months or 5 years, the fears will still be there, people will say it is too soon. You need to do what is best for you on this, follow your heart. HUGS
