I didn't have that for a cause of death so I am not sure...I hope that it does bring you a little peace knowing that there is nothing that you could have done. big hugs

I'm really sorry. As you probably already know, some states have made it a requirement to put SUIDS if there was co-sleeping. However, some parents have SUIDS as a COD even if they weren't co-sleeping, just because of the way that the different areas report. So to answer your question, SIDS and SUIDS are the same thing. Even though there was co-sleeping at the time of death there is no reason to believe that you did anything wrong, despite what certain posters and media would have you believe. There have even been studies conducted that show that safe co-sleeping can reduce the risk of SIDS rather than increasing it. I say this because my husband was co-sleeping at the time and even though we received SIDS as COD the guilt that he has gone through has been horrible.

Ari's COD was SUID, she wasn't co-sleeping but I think my area only uses SUID now.

IMO...since they came out with that campaign "Back to Sleep" to prevent SIDS, they seem to be real excited to announce that SIDS has dropped because of this new ~training~.
Even tho they ADDED SUIDS or SUID to they way babies die, it makes it look like it worked & more babies are being *saved*!!
This is my take on it anyways.
The FACTS sitll remain....they don't know why these babies are dying!!
They just added more names of SIDS.....it's still all the same....just sad!

Midwest, you are exactly right. Lukegrantsmom started a thread on this a few weeks back called "SIDS stats" and we discussed this very same thing there. SUIDS are not counted in the overall SIDS statistics, even though they are the same thing. So the whole "SIDS is going down" spiel might very well be due to the fact that many coroners are now reporting what might have been called SIDS in the past SUIDS or even just "undetermined." Also, the SIDS rates were decreasing before the "Back to Sleep" campaign (which was never really based on real scientific evidence but an experiment) and they were decreasing significantly. You don't hear much about that, either.

Sorry to get on a soapbox but sometimes I find myself particularly worried about you. We lost our children (and grandchildren and neices and nephews in some cases) but since you lost a child in your care that wasn't yours my heart breaks for you. I don't want you to ever think that you did anything wrong. Th fact that you are on here shows how much compassion you have and how much you were affected by the loss of your charge and I just wanted to say that I am so very sorry that it happened at all.

Thank you soo much for your concern for me....it was very difficult for me to go thru...but when I read about all these Mom's & Dad's suffering soo bad with their losses, my heart just goes out to all of them!
I'm OK....I continue to care for these beautiful children at my house, and actually have a deeper concern for them after loosing Mady.

I have 2 more Grandchildren on the way....one any day now, & I am on my Daughters about the importance of the child ~borrowed~ to them ffom God. My Sister does in home day care as do both of my Daughters & I make them aware DAILY of the importance of children!
