typo****** SID/SUID

We were very concerned about accidental suffocation since my husband was co-sleeping with my son at the time. They were able to rule that out due to where the area of discoloration was around the mouth and nose. We did get the COD as SIDS but it was almost a year before we received the death certificate. Although I requested the autopsy report back in February we haven't received it yet.

Collin was just pale I remember his legs were yellow. Which as you can see in his picture he and I both have a yellow skin tone. But what kind of discoloration like blue/purple or something? Collin was plae and a little grey color. My mom stated he looked grey at the hospital. once the pamadeciS had the mask on him his face looked bruised from it drawing up the blood to the surface.

The lividity, or discoloration, will only show up where the body was not in contact with something, at least in the beginning. Toby's mouth and nose were bruised looking, too, so that showed that they had not been in contact with my husband's torso or arm. They can also check the blood levels for carbon dixoide and oxygen levels.

It's weird because there was a case of a child's death on "Medical Examiner" not long ago and they went over these same things. It made me feel more at ease.

I know how you are feeling. When the coroner came out to our house he sat with my husband for over an hour while my husband basically confessed to murder. He was so sure it was his fault. The coroner was very patient. The next morning he called my husband and assured him that the suffocation had been ruled out. I was so thankful that he took the time to do that himself.

IF I CALLED THE COUNTY CORONER WOULD THEY BE ABLE TO GIVE ME ANY MORE INFORMATION THAN I ALREADY KNOW? WELL I DONT KNOW ANY INFO ON HIS DEATH OTHER THAN HE IS NOT HERE.

Until they finish the autopsy report you might not know anything. It's the toxicology that takes the longest. But yes, the coroner should know something. We didn't get our autopsy report back yet and I requested it in February. It took about 4 months for the death certificate to arrive.

You can call you ME and ask to speak with whoever did the autopsy.They will speak with you about their preliminary findings.They know if a baby was suffocated accidental or not. They can talk to you to try to ease some of the guilt you are feeling. I was not co-sleeping but I put my makayla down for a nap and checked her every 10 min for almost an hour.845 am she was alive 855 am she was on her face...she was greyish in color when i turned her over and she was in a sweat I thought maybe she choked. I thought she was alive. The ME told me the next day he believed it was going to be sids she had mini hemmorages on her heart,liver,spleen, kidneys,her thymus which controls their body temp...that is why I found her and she was in a sweat...her lungs...he said when he see's cases they end up being sids these were his original findings...he said he brain stopped working and the organs did not know what to do, they were not getting oxygenated blood so they hemmorraged ...it was one of the hardest conversations I have ever had...I just could not believe he was saying she was a healthy 15 lb 3 month old baby my baby but yet she did not wake up...what is that to me total crap...What a hard time this is I am so sorry for your loss....this is a good place to get help and understanding that you are not alone...hugs,Dorie

As the other ladies have said, they can rule out suffocation from post mortem and toxoligy reports. I had to wait 7 months to get back the results from our post mortem we had so many difficulties though and this was a ridiculous amount of time to wait to possibly find out what had killed my daughter. Although we were not co-sleeping and Anna died in her cot, I fixated on other things that I might have done which caused her death so it is perfectly normal to beat yourself up and worry and stress about what the report is going to say reguardless of the circumstances and although SIDS is not an answer per say it does help to take away a little of that self blame. I don't know how they do it where your from, but in Scotland when a baby has been co-sleeping, no matter what the post mortem results say, the report legally has to state unsafe sleeping environment as a contributing factor even if they have ruled out accidental suffocation and classified the cause of death as SIDS. As I said though I know these things vary from place to place but it might be something to find out about so that if it is going to say that you can prepare yourself. Remember you were a great mum and this is not your fault.

I got Collins Cause of Death on 11/21/11, he would have been 5 mo. old that day. It was SUID. Which I knew it would be if it was SIDs because of him sleeping in our bed. As soon as they told me a huge weight was lifted off of me. I believe that if John or I had accidentaly done anything, it would have showed up. I am at peace with the COD of SUID, I can live with that. I had already decided that SUID would be the best outcome of the results. I dont know how I would live if something was wrong with him or if we had done something to cause it. So i am so relieved that there was nothing more that John and I could have done. I really believe that if he had been in his pack and play beside my bed he still would have died. It was Collins time to go, or he would still be here, God had a plan for Collins life and he fufilled his purpose, much sooner than I would have hoped, but I am ok with knowing that Collin was happy and healthy and that he didnt die alone. His last moments alive were with his mommy and daddy. I feel like I can try to start remebering him and being happy about the time we had with him instead of all of the bad feelings, you know.
