I'm not an expert, but I have consulted with several... and if memory serves, your son is a bit young for it to be definatively diagnosed as a true stutter. Its certainly worth mentioning to his pediatrician, but I suspect that if its not a profound stutter, they will likely want to monitor it. Especially with a history of speech issues, I wouldn't ignore it, but I wouldn't worry about it either. Just pay attention and talk to the doc.
I consistently was told the same thing regarding my daughters stutter... don't give her the word, just be patient and calm, which will make her stay calm. She is doing really well... but sometimes staying patient and calm is very difficult from the receiving end.

It could be anxiaty if he is a bit nervous about school or somthing. But other than that it could be a phase. He is quie young to be diagnosed. Little children somtimes go through patches of speech issues. I would tell his doctor and keep an eye on it. But try not to stress. It doesn't actualy hurt just fustrating. Wish you all the best x

I would definately try not to make it a big deal to him, so he doesn't think somethings wrong with him. My dad would point out how I would talk when I was young and then I started analizing every word too much to the point sometimes it was just easier not to say anything at all. Try to be patient and let him know his words are important to you. Best of luck.

Hi there your Son sounds very much like my son was at these ages and he also started to stammer when he was about 3 he is now 8 and is fine what I told my wife to do is not to really take notice of his stammer cos if you do he will become aware of it and you may find you that he will get worst if he becomes aware he has one, just say to your son to stop think of what he is saying and say it slowly and this worked for us, I was almost in tears at times thinking I had passed my own bad stammer on to him cos of knowning what I have gone through in life it was the last thing I wanted for my little boy, but thank god he has grown out of it after about 6 months, by the way my own speech thrapist told me to do this and as I say it worked for us, but if he don't grow out of it after about 6 months then I would seek help

I did not speak till late and then stuttered badly. I was sent to a speech therapist who helped a lot. Now I am a Lawyer ( talk a lot) and aperformance poet.

Get diagnosis and try speech therapy.
