Stroke Support Group
A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.
I am 51 and 2 years ago had an ischemic stroke. I was very lucky that I survived with no outward signs of stroke. I have really been struggling since the stroke with uncontrolled emotions. Anger. Sadness. Depression. I have tried several anti anxiety meds but always end up feeling worse. The hardest thing for me is I no longer drive. I am physically capable of driving but I get so scaredscared, just thinking of it, I can't do it. I have lost my independence and now must rely on my husband and daughter to do anything. I lost my job because I was too afraid to drive. Now we are suffering financially and I am filled with guilt. I am not looking for answers. I can't discuss these things with my family. They think I am over reacting. And maybe I am. Thoughts?

Hope the dog days of summer aren't getting you down!

you talk to your doctor or a psychologist. My husband had a stroke
three years ago. It affected his left side. He had to take driving lessons
from a special school for handicapped people. He could no longer
drive with two hands. It was scary but he learned. He only drives
around the neighborhood though.
I now work only 3 days a week and have 4 days off I ask this because of the eyes they get tired too fast life is not is easy is it was before the stroke I still thankful to God because he spares my life and what those not kill you,
it makes you stronger. Happy Mothers Day. To you all !!!!!
I had an ischemic stroke last year. I asked my doctor what part of my brain was injured. I wanted to know because I knew it could help explain some of the changes in my behaviors. I became more emotional--laughing at things I would not have found funny pre stroke and crying at some parts in movies, short-term memory loss, reluctance to drive, and until recently depressed because I could not meditate--my brain simply could not do it.
I think the brain training I've been doing for the last year on the computer is what made the difference. It takes lots of time to grow new neurons, but we can do it.
I am grateful that extensive harm was not done and am working hard to regain the use of my left hand (I am left handed) and am teaching myself to walk again.
He said the stroke occurred in the basil ganglia. Personality changes can happen, emotional changes can occur and memory loss can happen.
I agree that every stroke is different, and I also believe degrees of recovery are possible if we work it. As for driving I will drive around my complex until I feel comfortable (its a small complex of 81 town-homes) It will take time, but I won't give up. Besides there are always bus rides, friends, family, and Uber!
So, keep on keeping on you can do it one little step at a time.

Suza66,
I was to ask you about, the brain training you have been doing on the computer, where I can find the program I have been looking for something like that.
