A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.
My friend Linda had a stroke almost 2 years ago, she has problems with speech now. We used to be silly and sing "do you know the muffin man", all the time while shopping and such...
Well she can still sing it and other songs perfectly!
If she sings often enough, can this not help her brain to pull up words and use speech more effectively?
Also Linda has just recently told me that she can write but has problems reading now...
Is there anyone else with this issue? Is it common?
To help with this, if we did karaoke, with the bouncing ball and words as she sang, could this help the brain recognize words again?
I would really like everyone's input...

I've seen singing often used as an alternative therapy for stroke and traumatic brain injury in Asia. I'm not a medical professional, so I can't speak to the science behind it. However, I've seen people in our programs whose memory recall was impaired sing entire Broadway songs.
