Stroke Support Group
A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.

It happened in January of this year. Started with face numbness, I tried to work it off, next thing, I was being sent to surgery and ICU for an aneurism. Four days later I came out strong, very fortunate I know. I seem to be losing ground now months later. I have poor balance, walk with a cane and lost 2/3rds. of my energy. anyone else experience down-hill symtoms?

Are you able to get physical therapy? It might help. Not having as much energy after stroke is normal. Ask you doctor what you can do to help yourself.

Hi tired, thanks for the reply. When I came out of the hospital, I was pretty strong. Physical therapist said he couldn't help me as I performed well. I think I need some balance exercises though. I can walk, but look like I've been drinking so I always use a cane in public. I also keep one in the jeep in-case I'm pulled over after shopping and headed through the parking lot. I spent half the day on my knees working the garden, I can't handle uneven ground. How about you? How long since?

I didn't have a stroke. My husband did. About six years ago. He was much worse off than you. Had to go to inpatient therapy so he could learn to function again. He still can't really use his left hand. And has less energy than he used to. I'm doing balance exercises I found on line. I'm older and my balance isn't good like it used to be. Make sure you have a chair or something close to you if you try any balance exercises. You want to be safe. Look up balance exercises for stroke. Maybe also check with your doctor. You might have another problem other than stroke. Since you were fine at first then got worse. As far as my experience, you are worse after stroke and then improve to some extent.
