A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.

partner of 14 years just had a stoke

My partner of 14 years had a stroke 5 weeks ago and I don't know what to do to "fix" it and make everything go back to normal. I've learned that the past will never be the future. I am usually the problem solver---right now I don't know if I'm doing is ever right. He has no insurance so no therapy.

Hello. I'm sorry your partner has had a stroke. It's very overwhelming to be a spouse or partner right now. Is he in a hospital or rehab facility ? They have social workers to help you, just ask.

Thank you for writing. He is at hope and as a disabled person (since 2000), I am so exhausted and he has a serious personality change, and thinks I don't so anything right. I am in such despair---almost like grief, I guess. I've called all over but because we are poor and he has no insurance (I have Medicare) he is just out of luck. The way we got physical therapy is that MY doctor's office manager called their primary at-home therapy, to whom they must give many referrals, and they agreed to 4-6 weeks of physical therapy. He is walking better with a walker but is utterly helpless. I would die if he didn't need me to do anything but even going to the grocery store, dollar store, anywhere is SO VERY difficult for me.
