Stroke Support Group
A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.

My grandma was admitted to the hospital sunday around 1 am. My family, boyfriend and I went to see her sunday night. She had a tube in her brain and in her throat. She wasn't breathing good on her own so they put a tube in her throat. I am really scared. She had a lot of swelling in the brain and was bleeding too. They said they don't know if she'll make it through, but if she does she might be paralyzed on her left side. She is a sweetheart and I don't know what I'm going to do without her. I already have depression. I'm going to cry a lot which is normal, but i'm not sure how to make it through. I saw her unconsious with the tubes in her and balled my eyes out. I held her hand for about 10 mins and then said I had to get out of there. I just couldn't take it. She didn't look like my grandma. She is beautiful though and I am going to miss her like crazy. My grandma is really worried and won't eat. My dad is going to go crazy because its his mom. She has 4 sons. Now the holidays are going to be really hard for my whole family because she might die. Even if she survives its not going to be the same. Its going to take a while for her to recover. I was really excited to spend it with my new boyfriend of 2 months because I know my grandma with love him. My ex was a dickhead and spend christmas with us and stuff before. So I was really excited for him to actually get to sit down and talk with my grandma. He met her once, but they didn't really talk that much. So now I'm really upset. Everyone is going to be depressed around here and idk what to do. Looking for support/advice.

Seeing a loved one in the hospital with or without tubes is always stressful. Know one thing, Everyone in this group will have you and your grandma in our prayers. Hope for the best and it may happen.

((((hugs)))-please also remember that she probably does not feel as bad as she looks,in fact I doubt that she knows what is going on.It may help to visualize her without the equipment, and then stand there and look at her until you realize that it is the same person.what is going on looks really bad and can be a huge shock, but please realize that the beautiful Grandma that you have always had is still there. She also knows that you are there even if she cannot express it.Your right,it will not be easy, and your being there with her makes a difference. You may be suprised at how strong you really are when you have to be.Please let us know how it goes-Jen
