Stress Management Support Group
Stress management defines stress as a person's physiological response to an external stimulus that triggers the "fight-or-flight" reaction.Stress can be overwhelming. This community is for best practices in stress management.

Many hospitals have started doing 1 of 2 things to deal with this. Either they give the patient mood elevating drugs or short term SSRIs, OR they teach "mindfulness meditation" to reduce the psychological stress, to improve the level of depression , to improve the speed of healing.
When I broke my leg last winter, I went to a lousy hospital that did neither. Luckily (?) I was also clinically depressed, going to a good psychiatrist and therapist, and THEY told me all this and got me on mood elevators and started on some basic mindfulness. If they hadn't, god only knows how things would have turned out.
My advice? Read these articles below, to reassure yourself I'm not just making all this up. Watch the video below, a talk from one of the molecular biologists at MIT doing a lot of the research and teaching on all this. Then talk to your doctor IMMEDIATELY about all this and get moving on using medical and psychological science to recover faster.

My dad has been to the hospital after throwing up blood from a bleeding ulcer. I get some people are afraid of that king of thing but I was a home health aid and can take a lot. Blood doesn't phase me.
Stress and depression can definitely go hand in hand. I've had depression for years. I hope you are doing better now, both physically and mentally.
I think physical therapy comes next if I'm not mistaken. I broke my wrist bad, had surgery and pt. It hurts at first but pt's work miracles in my opinion. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
