I understand your fear. Which its normal after going threw something as tragic as we have. I wrote a research paper for my school, inspired by my son, on stillbirth. I do to an alternative school where alot of teen mothers go and I felt like I could help them learn more about me and watch for signs to avoid it happening to them... The only way to prevent it from happening is to consider your personal experance. What all had happend and then go from there. Talk to your doctor about your concerns and if your doctor does his/her job correctly they will help you figure out the risk and monator your next pregnany VERY closly to try and cetch any problems in time. Brennasmom has a link on the next page about recurrant stillbirths. It's an 84 page paper by Dr.Collins a cord expert. It's really long. I'm in the medical field and I even thought it was hard to read. There is a very high risk of having another stillbirth but you have to also realize that you will now be considered a high risk pregnancy. My partner and I will be terrified for 10 months when she tries again but it gives me some hope knowing that she will be constantly watched.You can also get Dr. Collins involved in your pregnancy and he can review scans of your cord throughout your pregnancy to look for problems. Also on that same page it talks about kick charts and I know for sure we will be buying a home doppler. Pretty much Dr. Collins talks about the Mom being the one who has to learn to notice every little thing and about acting right away if something feels different. It kills me reading that paper because maybe if our OB/GYNs spoke to us more about this protocol alot more little ones could prob be saved.
Of course when you try again you will be a mess for 10months but all you can do is concentrate on getting you and your baby through it and believe that this time you will both make it and you will hold that precious bundle in your arms and watch them coo and cry and finally you will smile : ) Good luck!!

Know we'll all be extra vigilant next time. Just wish I had this information earlier for this pregnancy. Although we have no definitive answer from my doctor about what happened, Brenna had a day of hyperactivitiy with hiccups, followed by a slow down in her activity the next day and we lost her that night. This is pretty much a textbook cord accident, according to Dr. Collin's research. I emailed him my story and he actually called me a few minutes later and told me that, yes, he believes it was a cord accident. If I'd known, perhaps we could have saved her.

I understand your fears - I am fearful of the same thing and know that I would probably go over the deep end if I lost another baby. My Ob/Gyn was convinced that this was just a terrible, unexplainable bad stroke of luck and tried to convince me that the chances of this occurring again are very, very slim. I am healthy and my baby was healthy too so we really had no answers as to why exactly this happened. In some ways it's a positive and in others a negative because I have absolutely no idea what to look for or do differently if I were to get pregnant again. Anyways my doctor said that in future pregnancies I would be monitored much more closely. I know I will be a complete nervous WRECK the whole time but after almost 6 months I am slowly getting to a place where I can even begin to THINK about trying again. It is a hard road for all of us - but I wish you the best.
