Protein S Deficiency

My persistence has led to the conclusion that I have a protein s deficiency. Extremely rare e.g 1 in 20,000. It's not 100% the cause for a miscarriage at 12 weeks and stillborn at 36 weeks but I've been told its definantly a contributing factor.

Has anyone on DS had this and continued to have a successful pregnancy, if so, how did u treat it? I'm terrified of getting pregnant again just to have my heart broken again.

Wow really? 1 in 20,000? Well my daughter was stillborn at nearly 41 weeks in 2010. The perinatologist found I had a protein s deficiency, retested to confirm, and then put me on blood thinners for my entire subsequent pregnancy. Baby is 15 months old now. Have them check for mthfr mutations too. They may prescribe extra folic acid or baby aspirin to manage the condition. Best of luck to you.

The Perinatoligist did the same with me, and even the second test came back the same, they were both done within a week of eachother I'm wondering if I was just run down? Because I've never had a blood clot or any other symptoms. Now the Dr has told me I have a protein s difficency I am paranoid and feel every cramp in my legs and pain in my back which I worry is a blood clot in my kidneys. Did they confirm to you that it was the reason your bub was stillborn? They told me that it's definatly a contributing factor but we will never be sure. It's the only abnormal test I've had done yet, everything else has been perfect.

I'm glad the blood thinners worked and you have a beautiful bundle of joy. I'm nervous as I haven't 'pulled off' a pregnancy yet, I've had a miscarriage and a stillbirth. We have a referral to a hematoligist so hopefully we get a treatment plan and an idea of what we are in for when we get pregnant again. I've heard the blood thinners are injections twice a month? It's all alittle daughting for me. Not to mention a hard way to learn there is something wrong with my blood. Thanks for taking the time to respond, it always helps to know your not alone.
