I realize this isn't totally the right board for this topic...but you ladies have all been so nice...
I found out today that I am miscarrying.
My period last month was very strange...very light and only lasted about a day and a half, which is really unusual. Thought that I got "lucky". My period was late this month, but I didn't think much of it. My cycles are often irregular, so I can't totally pinpoint when it will come. I have a "ballpark idea" usually. So, when the time I thought it would come came and passed, I didn't think much of it.
When I started bleeding a few days ago, I didn't think much of it...just "Finally!" I did notice that I was bleeding heavily and cramping worse than usual, but again...didn't think too much about it. Thought it was just an annoyance...until today.
I went to the doctor this morning because I couldn't take the pain anymore. I also was passing huge clots, which was very unusual. I called my OBGYN and he agreed to meet me at the hospital (normally, I'm sure he wouldn't have...but I do have some other serious reproductive issues and he was afraid it was maybe associated to that). He told me within minutes that he wanted to do an ultrasound, but wouldn't tell me why.
As soon as I saw the screen in the US, I knew I was pregnant. She looked and looked...I've had enough ultrasounds, I know what a heartbeat looks like...I didn't see one. I said "It's gone, isn't it?" She just gently shook her head yes and finished her exam. I was sent back to a room to wait for my doctor. He came in about 10mins later and told me that sure enough, I had been pregnant and that the pregnancy had "spontaneously aborted". God, I hate that term.
Apparently, what I thought was my period last month wasn't. He said that a lot of women will experience a bit of bleeding, sometimes thinking it's a very light period. I had no other symptoms...no nausea, no headaches, nothing.
I just have a heavy heart tonight. I didn't have any time at all to bond with this baby obviously...and I wasn't that far along...but I still am mourning just a bit tonight. I have thought for years that I would love to have another child, but my husband is considerably older than I am and he doesn't want another...so I'm conflicted...and sad...

I am so sorry for your loss. And I am just as sorry that your doc used that term. I am with you, I hate it and when I suspected my second miscarriage I told my doctor from the start not to say that again. When I think of an abortion I think of intention and my body, "spontaneously aborting" makes me think of my body intentionally doing that. It's not right. It's a miscarriage, it's not intentional. As much as I want my babies here with me, it makes me feel a little better knowing that my babies are together at least. Hopefully you will find at least an ounce of comfort with that as well.

Thanks...it's been a hard couple of days. I went to the doctor again yesterday and they did another ultrasound. I hadn't passed the fetus yet, so my doctor asked me to have a D&C done. Just a terrible feeling. I know my baby passed away...but having the final moment of him or her inside my body, then being taken...Idk...just had a hard time with that. Like I said, I never really had the time to bond with the baby, since I didn't even know that I was pregnant yet. My husband has been very supportive and caring, because he knows how much this hurts me...but he made a comment to my doctor yesterday making sure it doesn't happen again...and that bothered me, seeing as he knows how much I would like another child. I understand and respect his position, just didn't appreciate the timing of the comment I guess.
