Step Families Support Group
Traditionally, a stepfamily is the family one acquires when a parent enters a new marriage, whether the parent was widowed or divorced. This community is focused on many of the relationships and issues that may arise within stepfamilies where you may find answers from some members and you may help other members with their questions.
I have a 14 yo son who has lived w/ his dad and smom since he was about 3 or 4, so they have basically raised him.
Son is having trouble in school, he blows off the 1st 6 weeks, gets failing grades, but then is able to get his shit together and pass the course w/ A's or B's. He is smart, just not motivated. His smom has asked me to talk to him about this, which I will this weekend. She also monitors his emails and texts (I approve of this) and has found some disturbing texts, such as "I hate my f'ing parents".
Since I don't have very much contact w/ my kids, I don't know if this is just normal teen-age boy crap (the texts) or something more sinister.
Any input would be appreciated.

My SD is 15 and has myspace statuses of hating her mom and she also had referred to me.....I have told hubby before that he and his exwife needs to monitor her texts and computer activities and he pushes it on his exwife, which I know doesn't because if she saw herself being called a "B", she would come off the wall.....and some sarcasm here....if she saw her daughter call me that....well, she would encourage her daughter to call me that.....lol.
Have you spoken to your ex husband about this? Are there any repercussions for his behavior?
My son is now 21, but when he was a teenager, he knew if I caught his texts or computer stuff, he would be grounded. I could not control his thoughts, but I could for the most part control the texting and computer as I could ground him from it.
Make sure your son knows that you, his dad and his stepmom, as she has authority by you and your ex, are on the same page and will be backing each other up and there will be consequences for any of his misbehavior.
As long as there are no major issues, a lot of this can be a typical teenager behavior....they just need to know the boundaries.
