Good Morning to you all.  I am new to the online support group community, but I look forward to gaining and offering support. I will be a step mother in 6 months to my finance’s son once we're married. My relationship with his son is great and no cause of complaints. The issues I have, are with the ex-wife and they continue to resurface and come with greater demands. They were married for 3 years before she had an affair. My finance chose to immediately split from her, and since then, their relationship is up and down (meaning, if she doesn’t get what she wants, she retaliates, and doesn’t hold back with rude comments, foul language, name calling and hypocrisy). His path for communication with her is always regarding their son. Her path for communication is beyond their son. The few instances I can recall; she will reach out to him about things that have nothing to do with their son. Some examples are: Her calling my mother-in-law to be, and ask her if she can bake cookies for her daughter’s birthday party (daughter from another relationship after the divorce). Another instance, she phones my fiancé and asks him to do her taxes. The latest incident, was her texting my fiancés sister in law, whom she hasn’t spoken to since the divorce, and asking her for HR advice (and please keep in mind, while all this requesting goes on, she forgets or chooses to ignore that days before she gets really nasty with him about some ridiculous issue like sending their son back to her with the same sweater or homework issues). His family does not reply, and merely just ignores her requests. My issue is "WHY DOESN’T HE & HIS FAMILY TELL HER TO BEAT IT!". I address my concerns to my fiancé time and time again and his responses are always "I want nothing to do with her, so the little communication, the better". My argument is continually having to feel like I’m pressuring him to grow some nerve and be honest with her by telling her she’s too comfortable. He avoids confrontation with her for the sake of their son, and knows that if he upsets her, she takes it out on their son by making snide comments about me, or punishing him for no reason other than her temper issues (example, my fiancé’s side has a family function and she agreed to having their son come with us that day, and if she’s upset because something doesn’t go her way, she will message my fiancé and revoke. I wish my soon to be husband would just tell her to keep their relationship open for their son only, and to stop messaging him and his family for all these petty requests. I point out that each time he ignores her requests, she comes back and asks for something greater. When I ask him if it bothers him that his ex reaches out to his family, he says "yes it does bother me”, but he always plays nice guy and avoids argument with her. At some point, I know this will eventually stop when their son turns a certain age, but in the meantime, it’s hard to digest the constant interruptions by her and being at her beck and call when she decides it’s time to rattle the cage.
