Step Families Support Group
Traditionally, a stepfamily is the family one acquires when a parent enters a new marriage, whether the parent was widowed or divorced. This community is focused on many of the relationships and issues that may arise within stepfamilies where you may find answers from some members and you may help other members with their questions.
I have been married to my SD father for 6 years and we have lived together for 8 years. In 2008 my Husband Cheated and had a baby. Since then My SD has turned into a a 13 year old brat. She is dis-respectful and lashes out at me. I have never done anything wrong and we use to be very close and this is just killing me. My gut says she is targeting me because she knows no matter what I will stil love her and this is the only way she has to show how hurt she was by her fathers actions. I could be grasping at straws. I will not push her to like me and I have told her that it is ok that she feels that way and no matter what I still lover her, but I am at my wits end on what to do next?
I have 2 SD's, ages 14 and 12. I used to be extremely close with both of them, but when the oldest was 12 and 13, she because very disrespectful and hard to live with. But over the past year she has really grown up and we are very close again.
Just as I started getting closer with her, now the 12 year old has it that royal pain in the ass phase and we fight like cats and dogs.
I don't believe it's them hating us at all. They are just at this awkward age where they aren't little but they aren't big...they are testing the waters to see what they can get away with and what they can't. They *think* they know everything. Consistent firm rules and consequences is key, making sure that she knows you aren't going to put up with it, and I'm sure it'll get better.
