Fair?

My boyfriend & I were talking about dinner for when his boys were going to be over. I was telling him that I was going to make a new recipe & he told me that I should do this on a night that it was just my kids home, you know in case I mess it up. It feels like the treatment isn't fair. I understand that he wants the best for them but my kids are just as important. Any thoughts?

Taking this just at face value, it should not matter if his kids are there or not. How often are they there? Are they finicky eaters?

We have them twice a week & every other weekend. He is afraid that I am going to ruin dinner for them.

I don't think he thinks you ae going to ruin dinner for them. I think all step parents worry that their kids won't be happy at their house and they might all of a sudden decide they don't want to visit anymore. At least your kids won't leave.

I would say, don't take this personally. It's not really a big deal if they like what you cook for them already.

Choose your battles.

Maybe he didn't mean it the way it came out.

Maybe he meant that he wasn't sure if his boys would like the recipe (are they picky eaters?) and he wanted to know if your kids liked it.

I would let this one go for now, but if you ntice a pattern of things being "good enough" for your kids and then the same things not being good enough for his, speak up.
