Spouses of Transgender Community Group
Being transgender it's not easy but neither for their spouses. This group is created with the intention of helping and getting to know others that are in. the same situation or to just educate those that are on the other side of the fence and want to know how does it feel or how would it feel to be a spouse of a transgender person. The main objective of this group is...
I know what you mean about limbo. I've had a few difficult days, after a month or so of absolutely nothing happening. My partner seems to be more trans than I previously thought - he opened up a bit more about his feelings - which hurt a lot, but it's a truth I have to be aware of. I think he's been denying it to himself too.
We haven't spoken to the therapist since November, but I think we need to book a session in pretty quickly, as I am back to a state of utter fear and panic again, after a fairly 'settled' few weeks.
I wish you luck xxx
And yeah, I can totally understand your feelings. After the appointment, my spouse said he really hoped he wasn't trans and that this thing is something else. It's tough when he says this because it makes me feel better, my depression lifts and I feel happy. However, I've been through this before with him and I know it will come crashing down again. Last night he saw his therapist and he came back saying that he wishes that him liking girly things didn't invalidate my heterosexuality. I told him liking girly things and wanting to be a girl are two different things.
I hope you can get an appointment with the therapist! Therapists can be really good for having a third party really parse through what's going on. I think sometimes my spouse needs to hear certain things from the therapist rather than just me.
(I love that!)
Cora, it sounds like it is moving again and in the right direction. It is too bad you both didn't click with the psychiatrist. It would be helpful. Glad to hear you are already ready to switch if necessary. How strong/urgent are your spouse's feelings about taking hormones?
I just started Wellbutrin for depression. I was already on citalopram. The Wellbutrin is giving me terrible tinnitus. Seems like most people say that the tinnitus can last 6-8 weeks. Ugh.
I am hoping you get out of limbo as quickly as possible without the next step being too overwhelming. I hate limbo too but I try not to wish this to move faster because I might just get what I asked for.
He also sometimes says things that make me think he isn't trans. He even suggested at one point that it could be a phase (which it obviously isn't). He acknowledges that is very much related to his aging. He looks younger in girl mode, and that makes him feel good. Make up hides his wrinkles. He hated turning 60.
Love and hugs to all.
Counseling really helps if you both click with the counselor and they help the total couple and help build skills that can help the communication and UNDERSTANDING.
Oh why are we going through this?
My spouse seems to complain of a vague uncomfortable feeling that he can't name. Sigh. It's frustrating because I can't solve this for him.
I think before he takes hormones though, he'll need to bank some sperm. I'm going to encourage him to do that regardless if we stay together or not.
