Spouses of Transgender Community Group
Being transgender it's not easy but neither for their spouses. This group is created with the intention of helping and getting to know others that are in. the same situation or to just educate those that are on the other side of the fence and want to know how does it feel or how would it feel to be a spouse of a transgender person. The main objective of this group is...
Hi everyone. I thank you all for posting your stories- this forum is very helpful! I have only talked to one person about this before, and it is becoming clear to me that I need to start talking more about this just to get my thoughts out of my head and be able to think more clearly! I need more mirrors to make sense of my confusing relationship.
My husband of 7 years and I have a 3 year old. I am bisexual and that is partly why my husband "chose" me to marry- he figured I'd love his female self as much as I loved his male self. I do love women and men, however, his female self is completely unattractive to me because he is so self-absorbed and even sexually focused on himself when he is in "female mode". Our sexual life has always varied between ecstatic and loving to disappointing and me having my feelings hurt because he's so into his own body and I feel like he's masturbsting to my body.
I want to love this female "real him" as much as the male person he usually is, but "she" is truly like a different person. Though I have been in love with women, I would never have fallen for a woman with that kind of personality and sexuality. I don't like selfish people, obsessed with their looks, who are more turned on by themselves than me. He worships himself as a female. I want my lover and partner to be as into ME!
This is all getting clearer as I read your posts that there seems to be a pattern with some men who have spent their lives wishing they were female. Is there a studied pattern of them becoming very self-absorbed and that their sexuality revolves around arousing themselves as female? Another pattern I'm seeing is that his mother is also self-absorbed, unloving, abusive, and his father is the weak one with low self-esteem. His mother always wanted a daughter, hates mem, and never gave him any love or respect. Is he trying to get her love unconsciously?
I truly believe we all need to be ourselves to be happy. I want him to transition if that is who he "really is". But I need to decide how I feel about sharing my life with someone I don't feel in love with or loved by. And I'm really freaked out about my son's life with a father who is so "fringe" in society.
I take responsibility for putting myself in this situation- I have always questioned our relationship and never left. Then we had an unexpected baby and I styated longer. And here we are. I knew he was a cross-dresser before we married and had a child. I thought I would easily love his female self, too, and always felt guilty for not responding with positive emotions when she arrived. He had tried hormone therapy for a month or so before we had a baby- and it was almost the end of us because I wanted kids in my future. That was why he stopped the therapy- so he could have kids and be the father he always dreamed of being. It seems he has a split-personality: the male he did a great job at developing into an amazing person! and the female he meanwhile fantasized about being, but never got a chanvce to develop her, so she sort of sucks at being in a relationship. She was always a personal, secret, private identity for him. So, which is more 'real,' I can't tell?
Since we had a baby, I had thought he had decided to stay male and dress for his own needs in his alone time, but he is feeling more certain that he needs to make the full-transition to become his "real self" to be truly happy. He's moving fast on this!
I don;t know how to respond to his process- a huge part of me does not want to be with this female version of himself until she develops more into someone I can love and feel loved by. He seems obsessed with his transition and himself, which I'm repelled by. I don;t know how to love this person who can't seem to love others/me. I can be supportive, yes, but do I want to be in a marriage? I really don;t see how I could do that to myself. I know he needs my support. And he may even need me as a partner to have the courage to do this. I want him to do what is best for him. But I don;'t know if I want to do it WITH him. It is a major sacrifice for me!!!!
I want to love other people and have been having strong crushes on other people for a year or two now.
I don't want to betray him or leave him alone to deal with this. But I want real love and a healthy relationship- which I don;t think this is anymore, if it ever was.
Reading this over, I feel like I sound like such a selfish asshole. I would never admit these conflicting feelings to anyone I know out of fear of their reactions....
Thank you for listening in a non-judgemental way!
Here's the thing, you can't support him without getting walked on all over. Moving on is the best thing.
And holy shit the bit about the sex?!?! Totally spot on!! This is why it is an illness, there are too many similarities in our stories.
My word, you have just described my own sexual relationship with my husband!! Imagine that kind of loneliness mixed with hurt & turn off for 25 years. I encourage you to talktalktalk!! The biggest contributor to me feeling stuck, isolated, desperate & guilty for so many years is that I didn't talk to a single sole about this until just last year. Not even on forums so I had no centre point to come back to, nothing to ground me. be honest with your feeling, bth to yourself & your husband, get into therapy (not couples, at least not ONLY couples) but therapy just for you!
If it's one thing I can see that was the start of this long lonely road made up of years of being happliy distracted so as not to have to really deal & demand truth from my partner, it's that I fell victim to a woman's stupid belief she needs to be a martyr. I was a good wife, supported him, didn't ask for much in return & wanted to keep everyone happy by keeping the family together.
Don't do it. There is zero reward in the end for not demanding the same respect, unconditional love & freedom for growth that we are so famous for promoting in our family. If after therapy, candid discussions with your spouse & a clear set of rules & boundaries that both of you promise to meet, you are able to confidently say "Yes!, This will work & we'll all thrive", than I wish you the best of luck. But DO NOT settle for anything less, don't be pressured or make any decisions based on fear or guilt.
make sure to put yourself on the list & strive to be the happiest & most peaceful Momma your sweet baby could possibly dream of!
Peace to you & keep talking :)

I can't thank you enough for your generosity in sharing!! It is a great balance to hear from someone "in the trenches" with an honest, candid & heartfelt concern, not just for the spouses, but also the Tg's ....I got so sidetracked last night on your Youtube channel & other perspectives as it was an eye opener. It's not often , if at all!, that we get your perspective, so thank you thank you!
I wish I could get my husband to read these posts, as well as other FTM members & watch a snippet even of your vlog. One in particular was insightful & spoke to me & my experience with my partner. The problem is, he is soooooo focused on plowing ahead with this fantasy & obsession, he would not be receptive to it. We are divorcing, no turning back on that one, but I'm so concerned that what he is shooting for is not attainable through surgery, make-up, all the pretty dresses in the world. And judging by his own posts on his "secret life accounts", he is surrounded by other Yes men/women, in fact they all encourage each other to "flip the birdie to the uptight wife & do what you want gurl!, You've sufferred enogh/ it's your time!"....something to that effect. Hnestly, they all sound like snotty selfish teenage girls. There is NO perspective such as yours & your wife's out there as a foil at least to all the chanting. And I'm really worried that if he follows through with transitioning, he will end up being even more lonely & depressed as there is no re-do at ground zero after that.
Sorry to ramble, I just was so excited & so impressed with your generosity of candor & sharing, that can't be easy in the community as it may seem like you are an "inside mole & traitor" to some.
Good Hums to you & your partner :)

Yes, it really does feel like cheating doesn't it?! My husband becomes a beauty pageant contestant after he spends 4-5 hrs getting ready (seriously, what cis woman has that kinda time?!). I used to be supportive, but now, after years of not seeing even a smidgeon of support, attention or (God Forbid!) a compliment thrown my way, even in his male mode, I am completely turned off. In fact, after I flew home from burying my mom who died recently, Just a few days later, feeling very depressed & out of sorts, he was determined to go out, instead of being home with me. For the first time in 25 years I saw him through completely different eyes. Where I was normally helpful & supportive of his "going out process*, I was literally nauseous. I could barely look at him and for the first time ever I thought to myself "How the EFF did I get here??!! Who thahell IS this man & How & why did I say *this* was okay?!" It was like a veil was lifted from my face INSTANTLY!
And it's not even so much the clothing/hair/make-up transformation that turns me off the most. It's the knowledge of so much lying, deceit & disrespect. And the fact that he thinks so little of me that he could so easily design & playout such a plan over the years.
Yes, the pictures & postings, the fascination with nylons & heels, plastered all over their/his accounts. The cheering on of each other (yet none of that at home, to the person who actually genuinely cares for them), it most definitely does feel like an extra marital relationship. The fact that it is also on a locked down, private account really drives home the feeling of being shut out of his life. And yes, to answer any questions, I snooped. What smart woman wouldn't?
I'm definitely in no shape emotionally to even think about dating again, but I do pray that there is genuine, honest, redhot love in my future after all these years of feeling like pathetic trash he has waiting at home.
Sending you some big virtual hugs!
