Spouses of Transgender Community Group
Being transgender it's not easy but neither for their spouses. This group is created with the intention of helping and getting to know others that are in. the same situation or to just educate those that are on the other side of the fence and want to know how does it feel or how would it feel to be a spouse of a transgender person. The main objective of this group is...
Welcome to the group, and NN... you too! I agree with you, don't let him change YOUR identity in all this.
It was upsetting to begin using their new name and pronouns when I first started practicing. It made me feel anxious, sick, afraid I would lose them just as you described. But after about two weeks of work, I realized something important. The name didn't change who they were. The pronouns, the clothes, none of it affected the way they looked at me, or the jokes they liked, or how warm the felt or how gentle they were. I found this immensely comforting.
We also talked a lot about boundaries. I told them there were sex acts I would never want to perform, and they promised to never ask me to. They had words they didn't want used, so I promised not to say them. Small, easy compromises to make sure both myself and my partner felt safe and loved were critical to lowering our anxiety over the whole thing.
I hope this helps you somewhat. It's not all fire and brimstone. Our journeys are unique, and I hope you find love in yours.
I do agree with what LoveIsLove said about boundaries and words. Doing this will mean that you will continue to respect and take care of each other. Sadly, my transgender husband and I did not do this, and we are divorcing.
