Spouses of Transgender Community Group
Being transgender it's not easy but neither for their spouses. This group is created with the intention of helping and getting to know others that are in. the same situation or to just educate those that are on the other side of the fence and want to know how does it feel or how would it feel to be a spouse of a transgender person. The main objective of this group is...
I think one of the things I've learned about myself from this experience is that I'm totally a "caretaker" in a relationship. Like, either I feel loved when I'm taking care of someone, or I think someone will love me if I take care of them. However, with some things, at the end of the day, the other person has to want to take care of themselves. And particularly with transitioning, the trans person has to feel ready to do that.
Like, I have a relative who feels that he is gay but doesn't feel like he can actually be gay. He has acknowledged that his friends just tell him to live his life as he wants, but he makes minimal efforts to do so. He's pushing 40 and still lives at home. Now, I'm not married to him and I don't live with him, but there was definitely a point where I had to accept that the likelihood of him of ever making important moves is either nonexistent or minimal. And I just settled on supporting him whenever he did make a small decision.
Anyway, that's just to say, please take care of yourself. Don't let your spouse's inability to make decisions put your dreams on hold.
Going from your best friend and lover to basically just passing is hard. The one thing I can say is many TGs really have lost many resources. My partner can’t even get a group through the VA and she just came out this year. We’re both disabled, I’m all she’s had 24/7, and I’m loosing my crap. She has a therapist, but not for any of this. And we are not meant to be it, no matter how much we’re their “safe person”. But there ARE online options... we found one.
She has to want it enough to find it. You have to find your center and don’t loose it; even if finding it has some tough choices. Never loose you.
Realized I could have worded that better. It’s been a long day.
