I know it isnât the same thing but my step son calls me may-may, he was about the same age when he first started trying to say my name and may-may was what came out when he tried to say Maggie. Heâs almost 6 now and can say Maggie but he still calls me May-may, itâs more of a term of endearment now, and it means a lot to me that he still calls me that instead of Maggie. I wouldnât want him to call me Mommy, Iâm not his mom, and he knows who is Mom is. I wouldnât be comfortable with him calling me Mommy but it has always melted my heart when he calls me may-may and the few times he has called me Maggie I donât care for it. If you really arenât comfortable with the little guy calling you Ma, or any other variation of it, than it maybe time for you to start teaching him how to say your name, and what ever variation he comes up with could be a new nick-name just between you and him, then he isnât calling you mommy but has his own term of endearment that is just for you, this maybe more comfortable for you, or you could even come up with your own Nick name and just teach him that. I know you said that you are becoming fond of him, and I hope that you are starting to bond with him. I know itâs hard for you and you want your own child with your husband, but if you are choosing to stay and choosing to make your marriage work, I would think that the best thing for all is to except this little guy into your family, and I thought it sounded like you are, as hard as that maybe. But that does not mean he has to call you mom, especially if you are not comfortable with it. But coming up with a special nick name for the two of you may help to strengthen the bond between the 2 of you. I donât know because Iâm not there yet, and God help me I wonât end up there (no offense) but maybe as the bond between you and the child strengthens, the whole situation will become easier for you. I hope that it will. You have had enough trials over the last 2 years and deserve for your load to start getting lighter. If a special nick name is even to much than it is just time to start teaching him your name, you donât have to explain to him that he canât call you Ma, heâs to little to get it, but if you just keep saying your name over and over to him and asking him to say it to you until he getâs it right, heâll figure it out that is what he should call you, and he is so little right now he wonât even wonder why, at that age there thought process isnât developed enough to figure out any thing other than this is what I call her. It would be almost the same way you would teach a toddler to say there Uncle Mikeâs name, through repetition, than one day they say Uncle Mike and from than on out they know they call that guy Uncle Mike.

17 months of being around me and my h and younger son always using my full name ...he started calling me ma ma 2 months ago. It was akward at first and i didnt aknowledge him at first...but it's stuck...and now he screams ma ma when im in the other room. No avoiding it now.

One more thing...I always said he can call me whatever he is comfortable with..and still can.

I haven't been in this room in a while, but this thread caught my eye and I felt like I wanted to respond. My H son is 10 years old. He's known me since he was born. H and I have 3 daughters together who all call me Ma or Mommy. I think being around his sisters and hearing what they call me, step son feels comfortable calling me Ma. At first, I was like you Ame...It hurt so bad I felt physically sick and I would just walk away. But I eventually realized that the affair was in no way the fault of this child...he is just as uninvolved as I was...so I couldn't hold it against him. Although it hurt like hell to hear him call me such an endearing term...I would rather he feel comftorable enough with me to do so.

I just want to add that...as time goes by this situation gets a little easier to handle...it's been 10 years for me but sometimes I still remember the pain as it was yesterday...most days I say a prayer and keep my head up....I advise you guys to do the same...it does get better :)

So I spoke to the OW about this and she claimed she had no issue with him calling me MA. The next week she is trying to teach him my name and the child just looks at her and laughs and says "No, MA". It is sad, but I kinda find her pain in this funny. The child and I got a couple hours alone and really bonded some and it is getting easier, but still hurts.

Oh....that's great, amethyst! I'm glad that it's getting a little easier. Do you have overnight visits yet?

No overnights yet. I am not sure even if the OW would allow it, if I would be ready for that. That and I don't think my H wants that.
