Our state is horrendously lazy when it comes to updating systems and submitting paperwork. Last year and the year before, they garnished our tax returns for child support because the state would not lower the payment amounts because OW was hiding. So they took 50% of H's pay and the rest that they couldn't take accrued as debt.

When they finally found her, forced her into court, and then lowered her payments, they wiped H's debt clean (it's retroactive)... but they didn't freaking submit the paperwork for the federal or state IRS to know that! So $2,500 of our tax return was garnished, along with our whole state return, because they think he still owes. Now we have to harass them to get our money back because I was put on bed rest and had to quit working. Our return was supposed to cover my loss of income for bills and rent! Aaaarrrrrrgh!!!

The last two years, I had to fill out Injured Spouse forms to keep them from garnishing my portion of the return. This year, I didn't file the form because we were assured that he had no liability. Great. e_e
