Im a moderate catholic/Christian and I don't ever believe that a child will be dammed in the afterlife because his father couldn't keep it in his pants.

There are far too many illegitimate children that are not of affairs and far too many "legitimate" born from loveless and abusive marriages. I take a lot of the bible as stories or lessons but not as fact.

That would also mean that my first born son is dammed since hubby and I were not married at the time of his birth.

As angry as I am I didn't agree with this either I just heard about it and Googled it I think that's taking it a little too far

My relationship internally and externally is complicated. I really don't know how I am feeling about him half the time. I do know that hatred had never been there but I'm not sure if love is either. It's weird. This bible passage promotes hatred and I can't imagine that Jesus as I know him would want that.

My anger, when it's there is at my H or the ow and sometimes the oc is a trigger or reminder of that. The majority of negative emotions I have towards oc have more to do with him being an annoying kid and in a constant state of competition with my youngest.

So strange, this whole situation, right?

i think a lot of Bible stories like this were intended to deter people from making bad choices and creating illegitimate children in the first place. How better to deter someone from making a horrible mistake than to give dire warnings about the consequences of that mistake, not only on the person, or the illegitimate child but that child's child and so on and so forth for 10 generations? Nowadays, there really aren't consequences for having children out of wedlock, but back then it would have been devastating for everyone involved.

I'm glad people are no longer cast out for such mistakes, but i think society is a little too accepting. My pet peeve is that a bimbo can have kid after kid with dad after dad and get society to pay her way. i think one mistake is acceptable, but I think women who choose to have kids outside of established families should only get help with the first one. If they choose to get knocked up again, they can do it on their own or give the baby to a family that is prepared to raise it without taking money from the rest of society. Also, i think custody in situations like ours should be determined by who's financially prepared for the situation. Whores shouldn't get paid for TRYING to break up a family by spreading their legs.
